Default Look what I've got !!!

I moaned ( yet again ) last week about the delay and lack of communication from the Custom Shop regarding my order and contacted the distributor to cancel it.
Guess what arrived this morning !!!

I finally have in my possession my Custom Shop JB.
I ordered Normal spacing, short legs, Butyrate zebra bobbins ( with logo ), maple spacer, rough cast de-gaussed A5 magnet ( as per the antiquity JB ), 4 conductor wiring.
I cannot confirm that's what they made , but it certainly looks lovely... LOL
It says on the box that the DC is 16.6K and the gauss is 25.
I assume the magnet is de-gaussed as per the antiquity version but if it sounds good.. who cares ??
I can't get it installed until Fri but I'm dying to try it.

I'd like to publicly thank the MD of Rossetti ( the new UK distributor ) for his help and generosity in sorting the price and order process.

It's been painful but hopefully, worthwhile.

I'll update the thread when I get the guitar back on fri.

I needed short legs and 4 conductor wiring for my guitar, best of both worlds.
Hopefully it was worth the expense.
I've fitted it in the guitar ready for the tech guy to do the wiring on fri.. looks amazing.
The singles are actually Suhr V60LP but I had some Duncan logo'd covers and thought it looked great with them installed.

Oh Wolfman, this guitar is gorgeous and I don't even like green guitars. You have to let us know how it sounds once it is all wired up and run through your rig.

Had the guitar back from the tech today and the pickup is incredible.

Unfortunately I can't use it live tomorrow as the new Bourns 82 Vintage pot he installed at the same time is faulty and it's going to take 2 weeks to get a replacement direct from Bourns.

My Silhouette has a Trem spaced production JB running with 250k pots and much to my amazement this Custom Shop version is even sweeter.

Money well spent ?? ABSOLUTELY !

As an aside, I also had him install a Suhr V60LP in the neck position and I can't get my Kinman back in there fast enough.
People say that noiseless pickups aren't as toneful as true singles... my reply is .. " wanna bet " ???

how does it differ from a regular JB??
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

I managed to gig the guitar last night and this pickup is fantastic.
I have lowered it to 4/32, which seems to be the sweet spot and it really sung.
It also sounds superb in single coil mode.
I'll admit I was sceptical about having a Custom shop version of a production pickup but I'm now very happy I went ahead.

No idea how you lot gig true single coils.. the noise is a major handicap.

I was going to ask you the same as he did - presumably there is some difference between your pickup and a regular JB/TB4, or you woulda just bought one of the many JBJs on ebay.
It would be very interesting to hear about it if you ever A/B your JB with a regular JB in that guitar.

I remember your thread BTW - did Rosetti lower the price across the board or was it a one off for you?

    Wouldnt that actually be 1/8th?

Yep, 1/8 seems to be the sweet spot for the JB.
I have a production TB4 and as I've said, the TB4 with 250k pots sounds like my Custom Shop with 500k pots.
It's much sweeter than I was expecting after all the talk of high mid spikes and it's simply not an issue.
I don't know which aspect of the construction is the reason but it's definitely a keeper.
I've only had it for 2 days and 1 gig so I need time to get used to it.

I'm also extremely disappointed in the neck single coil I bought.
After all the hype about the tonal benefits of real single coils over noiseless singles, I was expecting something special.
I've bought what is widely regarded as one of the best and it's a big let down.
The E poles are nowhere near the strings and I can clearly hear the lack of response.
My Kinman will be going straight back in when my new volume pot arrives this week.

What difference to maple spacers have with regards to tone? I think the JB normally comes with metal ones? What does maple do?

sorry i missed your question about the pricing. I actually don't know the answer. I paid £149 inc postage and vat which is 3 times the price of a production model but it's a really spectacular pickup so i'm happy.

yeah, thats what I was asking. Was wondering how the tone of your CS was different than a production one, to warrant the cost/benefit of buying a custom.. So it sounds like its a mellower version of the regular JB?
