    Default Need New Pickups

I was thinking about changing the pickups in carvin for some different pickups. It's a mahogany body with mahogany neck and an ebony fretboard.

For the neck pickup I really want a nice clear solo tone for higher gain solos. Think iron maiden type solos. To get that I was thinking about the dimarzio liquifire. Do you guys think that would work out well?

As for the bridge I'm a little more clueless. The kinda bridge tone I'm going for is a really deep thumping rhythm tone. Kinda like tool or zakk Wylde. But with that in mind I still want to maintain clarity for solos. The only pickup I can come up with is the custom but I'm not sure how that would sound.

If you could just let me know your opinions that would be great thanks.

Are the pickups in your Carvin stock? What do they lack now that you want more of?

Go with a custom man. It sounded great in my all Koa carvin.

So, before we just go throwing random pickup names out there....

How does the guitar sound NOW? Acoustically? I can guess from the wood, but could be very wrong.

    What amp?

    Styles of music?

Or we can just name random pickups and you can pick the one we suggest the most. Not that it will necessarily sound good in your combo of gear.

Yes they are stock pickups. The neck pickup lacks sustain and the smooth solo tone that I'm going for. Other than its a great pickup. The bridge pickup gets a little harsh on the treble side and lacks high end clarity. The bass end of the pickup however is pretty close to what I'm going for. I'm really looking for a bridge pickup that has that nice low end like tool but will maintain high end clarity. I think part of the problem with the high end may come from the ebony fretboard.

The guitar acoustically sounds really nice. Its got quite a bit of bass to it and I'd say it has a lot more low mids then It does high mids. The treble isn't too much but is still very pronounce.

My amp is a vox vt30 and my styles are mostly hard rock/metal.

Have you adjusted pu height on both so far? Sounds like you're on the fence whether the pickups are good to you or not. For more sustain and clarity try lowering them. Mess around with the height of both first, in case you find the sweet spot. Saves you a load of $. Good luck!

But that seems to be SOP around here anymore rather than actually sizing up a suggestion just let everyone throw the forums flavor of the month at them until they buy it.
