    Default dimarzio blaze

dimarzio says this pickup is like the 7 string version of the steves specail.
i just installed it in my rgd. overall its a good pickup. its tight. bright but yet still warm. good stain and harmonics. but it is very ho hum for some reason. just bland like there is no personallity. its very professional it does its job and thats it.

anybody else feel this way about these pickups?

Glad you said that, they were #1 on my list if I ever got a 7 string (probably not though)

Ever try the x2n 7? Back when I had a 7 string I had one in the bridge and really liked it.....tight but with crazy harmonics....

my Ibby Universe came with the Blaze set in there. never all that impressed with it. sort of dry and lacking character.... like licking a chalkboard. never gotten around to trying anything else. word is that the DMZ 7-string pups are the way to go, but I think a set of Full Shred 7-string pups might be worth checking out.

    Why are you licking chalkboards?

I've never really heard one good thing about the Blaze.

The Blaze Custom is supposed to be pretty kickass though. Maybe give that a try?

What ever you do, stay away from the Tone Zone 7. Nothing good comes from that pup.

Yeah I figured tone zone 7 would be mud city. If I dont like these porters I am going either Duncan custom/ distortion and 59 neck. That combination is like old faithful for me

On Musiciansfriend.com it got a 4.5 of 5 so I put it at the top of the list if I ever got a 7 string. Looking at the site again though, there is only three reviews so you could be right.

So went and rehearsed with it to see how it held up in a mix. I had to turn my mids on 8 just to be heard. That is a 5150 running thru eminence v12. Overall it still didn't exite me at all.

Dimarzio Blaze never worked for me. Hated them in fact. Back when I originally had a 7 there weren't any options. Anything is better than the Blaze in my opinion.

I should add the Blaze Custom isn't bad. Much better than the Blaze. The Blaze pickups just have no body they far too scooped for me, but not in a good way. Like a bad attempt at making a HB sound like a single coil. The blaze custom has more mids and helps a lot. Still a bit sterile but sometimes that's good.

You have to be careful with those reviews. I get the feeling most of them are written by people who just bought the product and want to gush about how pleased they are with the purchase. For all you know, it could be the only product of its kind the reviewer has ever used.
