    Default Bogner Alchemist?

Any thoughts on the Bogner Alchemist? I know it's made by Line 6 in China, but they recently came down in price ALOT, I'm thinking it might be a substiture for the PRS SE 30 amp I was looking at

they get a lot of negative press because theyre made by line 6, but its undeserved. most of the people who complain the ones theyve played have been broken were usually playing floor models, and to that extent ive played broken brand new mesa's that were floor models. i like mine, i have the 212 combo. i bought it because of the price, and although im getting a different amp because this one doesnt fit in sonically with my band, i like playing it, and the effects are pretty good on it. is it $1600 good? no. but its worth every penny of the $600 i paid

Thanks, it sounds like a great amp, they're on sale at musicians friend this week for about 425 with the discount. But as you said, it won't compare to. $1600 amp, so I'll keep saving up for my dream Mesa

I just picked up a 2X12, and oddly the other amp I was seriously considering today was a mesa express 5:50. I don't think I would have paid $1600 for it, but it easily compares to any of the $1000 combos I've checked out. I like mine a lot. Plenty of gain, responsive eq, nice reverb, boost option for either channel right from the pedal. A lot of great tones I've found already

I've got an Alchemist head and love it. Great tones and features (love the warm reverb and the ducking delay), the boost is a great feature. I'm running mine into an oversized 2x12 with G12H and Swamp Thang = awesome tone.

Mine was running hot due to the tubes-down design, but after installing a couple cooling fans I haven't had any problems.

It's not for everything, but I love mine
I couldn't do w/o it for some stuff, so if necessary, I'd buy it again.
Which btw, is why I'm pissed its on sale so low right now!

I checked out the Mesa yesterday and wasn't impressed. The Lone Star sounded cool, but the Express 5:25, 5:50, Electra Dyne and Mark V all tended to sound like my Black Star HT-5 with a 10 band EQ in the loop- so I couldn't justify the price.

The Marshall Vintage Modern Combo sounded sweet, but was too big for what I want now- a 1x12 combo. I may just got for the EVH 5150 III Mini and the 1x12 cab

Look for a mesa rectoverb or tremoverb

I should try it again. When I got my PRS I played it through a 6505+ combo and I recall getting great tones- my complaint with the amp, and many amps these days, is the tone tends to shound like you put a blanket and pillow over the speakers- whereas the Marshall Vintage Modern sounded clearer- as does my Carvin V3. I started dialing in my Carvin V3 yesterday and overall got better tones than every amp I tried at Guitar Center
