Played a "real" one all through the 1990's.
That is NOT the guitar that Becker played by any stretch. 24.75 scale vs the new 25, the current neck profile is not even close to the original.
Now the DAY that Carvin builds a REAL shredder neck 24.75scale DC is the day that I will be selling off whatever I have to to own one!
    Till then I'll pass.
And for those that think that i don't know what I am talking about.
I once owned all of these late 80's- 1991 Carvins.

    And my 1990 DC 200

The "real"one IMO was one of the best shredder guitars ever built by any body at any price. The only other neck that I would put in the same category would be the 08 Washburn USA HM series guitars with the Parker board and the SS jumbos.
I still own this one from 1990.

This guitar has the best single neck I have ever played and is SO feather light it feels like a toy but SCREAMS!!!

Ascension, does their custom shop do the 24.75 scale and the old neck profile?

    I've never played a Carvin.

Am I missing out on a great shred guitar?

I think it looks better than most. It's got a nice 80's Jackson/Charvel vibe.

I know I'm the last guy you'd expect this from but....

In the 80's, 90's, and 2000's, I did a heck of a lot of bartering, trading, and flipping, as some of the elder members here remember.

I had that exact guitar in an ebony fretboard model for about 3 years, and I think I traded a Fender Bonnie Raite model strat for it. I went through a couple decades of serious flipping, and I remember that Carvin as being the very best Carvin I've ever owned. That was a killer guitar.....and if I'd gone to the extent of installing Duncans, it would have been even better.

Looks wise it is similar. But it is different top to bottom. Scale, bridge, neck profile, fretboard radius, pickup rings, the body shape itself, the neck-body-joint, the headstock, the logo size, the truss rod cover........

I'm strictly a Carvin player but I will never buy this guitar.
Play it like you mean it!

I think it's awesome. Too many switches and pots for me, though. I'd still rock one if I had the chance. Blue + Maple = win

The only difference with this one is Jason Becker gets a royalty. Carvin even included a link to a web site so if you wanted to, you could make a donation to Jason's family to help him out rather than buying the guitar.

And everyone is right. Looks wise it's the guitar- but I remember getting the catalogue back then- the guitar had maple wings, a 24 3/4" scale, Kahler trem, 15" fretboard radius. I never played an 80's Carvin, but the scale length on my Les Paul is great for shredding despite the chunky neck, it makes tapping alot easier. I can't comment on the neck profile either

I like that they brought back the sapphire blue. Unfortunately the figured maple back then was alot more insane since it wasn't being over harvested.

What has amazed me is that Carvin really hasn't raised their prices much over the 20 year period I've received their catalog. They offer a ton more options which raise the price, but if you compare what used to be their Flagship- the DC 400- they really haven't raised prices much at all

I was going to refute the lack of price increase, but yer right - I had a DC127 that was around $800-900 in 1999/2000 (I think closer to $900 due to some minor upgrades I did), and it's now on sale for $799! Pretty cool!

Given what other guitars are going for these days, the Carvin is not a bad deal at all, considering it comes built to your specs. The only thing I would do differently than before is get a solid color or a stain as opposed to one of their bursts, and I wouldn't get a Wilkinson.

Great, now I want a Carvin again.
