Not quite a Peavey, but a Southeast custom body with an eBay neck. It used to have a reverse Jackson-style neck. The covered pup is one from a Westone that I put Duncan Snark magnets on and a DiMarzio Super3. Pretty smooth telestein overall!

Peavey Reactor, it's been modded a ton.

Saying a tele can't do metal is dumb. Maybe it can't do Pantera, but a tele can definitely sound heavy and be used to play metallic music.

I certainly wouldn't say that artists like Jimmy Page (tele), Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen (strats), Billy Joe Armstrong or Dean DeLeo (P90s) have gotten a "modern metal" sound out of single coils, and I guess it would be a stretch to include the EMG single coil loaded Fernandes strat Kirk Hammet played in Metallica, but a quick perusal of YouTube shows what a yammering moron you are.

I edited it to be nice, but no, people who refuse to admit their own ignorance in the face of overwhelming evidence are morons. Dude.

I don't think so. All i see is a bunch of butt hurt Tele owners , including yourself, who can't handle that someone pointed out that other guiatrs are more metal ( and go back and reread my posts, I do leave some margin for exceptions), than dedicated metal guitars IN MY Effin OPINION..last time I checked, i'm allowed to have an opiinion..however this topic is a pet peeve of mine, and I'm drawn like a moth to the flame to it.. and i actually got kicked off TDPRI for this very topic, so I'll grant Im pushing my point too far , and since this isnt a person to person discussion, i'll back down before the mongrel hordes draw and quarter me.
As far as a stock Tele being "metal" (and again, see my definition of metal) ?? G..T..F..O!!

Once I jammed with a 335 and a tele with a bunch of metal guys... both guitars sounded great.

That is really funny that this thread exploded due to an assertion by MetalManiac that teles can't do metal. I've enjoyed the **** out of this, and MetalManiac, I think you are great, this forum wouldn't be the same without you.

That being said....what do you think the guys in the first post are playing? Is Gojira not metal? Is some guy in his basement going to tell the guy that opens for Metallica that he is not playing metal and should pick up a real guitar? You should catch Gojira on their next tour with Dethklok and Lamb of God (or Baroness with Meshuggah), pull them aside and tell them that they are not, in fact, nearly as metal as you are. After all, what is a touring, recording metal band compared to a guy on a guitar forum who owns a lot of gear?

Sure there are more "metal" guitars out there, but the point stands that a tele (stock) can do metal just fine. You get what you put into it.

If it's mahogany with EMGs, is it still a telecaster in the strictest sense (if only the shape is the same)?

and just to mention another band: The Safety Fire have teles made by Wirebird Guitars with a recessed neck joint, flatter radius and Bareknuckles

This thread is missing ESP Stef Carpenter baritone teles!
I'm waiting till oddballs like Jaguar and hollowbodies get 'permission' to enter metal realm. It'd be fun.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Kreator lead guitarist used a BC Rich Dagger (semi-hollow) in the 'Enemy Of God' video...
