Default Jackson SL2H Soloist worth the $

    Hello,
I would really like to own this guitar, I played a friends today. Is it really worth the $2400? I know you pretty much get what you pay for. I just really enjoyed playing this model. would like to hear back from people that own them or used to. thanks. I like the blue but its an extra $200.

I have an SL1T. Different pickups with a tune-o-matic. Great guitar. I LOVE the neck profile. Fairly wide nut width, and D-shaped on the back. Not very thick, but it doesn't feel overly thin because it has more shoulder than most necks. I play better on it than any other guitar. But strangely it is so different from other necks, that I have trouble playing other guitars after playing it. So when I play that guitar I end up playing it for awhile while my other guitars sit.

As much as I love the guitar, I would not pay that price for a new one. They can be had on the used market fairly regularly for $900 to $1,400 depending on finish and condition. They are certainly worth that. Mine is trans blue, btw.

Really only you can decide if something is worth it for you. Not trying to be a jerk but seriously. You will find tons of people that say no guitar is worth 2k that anything over xxxx price is silly. Then you will find tons that will say yes it is worth it that it does make a difference.

In my opinion if you played it and you really dig it and you can afford it... Then its worth it.

$2400 for a Jackson SL?! Thats weird. I was about to get a Soloist early this year but backed off beause of the 6 month wait (the color I wanted, quicksilver, wasn't in stock and had to be special ordered). Anyway, I mailed a few dealers and got a price of $1,999 for either a SL1 or SL2H in solid colors brand new. I wasn't interested in the transparent colors but I remember one of them mentioning it was a $100 or so upcharge. Only the models with graphics were above $2400.

    Check with this guys: http://www.mattsmusic.com/
I remember I called them and got a great deal on a new black SL1 they had, but I let it pass because I really wanted the silver one.

They're definitely worth the money. I have three of them but I didn't pay near $2400 for any of them. Where did you see this price?

I got one used for about $1300, a new SL2HT with transblack finish and flamed top last summer for about $1900, and I got a solid black one new two summers ago for $1600.

Look around. The trans finishes are more expensive but you can generally deal with the dealer and get a better price. Check out themusiczoo.com. They're great to deal with. I've bought a few Jackson and a BC Rich Bich Supreme from them in the last few years.

They are super nice with a really playable neck that is less round than a Gibson 59 but not too flat either. Neck through makes it even better.

I don't care for the Floyd equipped ones though. As far as quality goes I doubt there's anything better out there that isn't custom shop.

I got mine used for just under 1,000 which is right about where I think they should be.

Build out a Carvin DC127. I have owned both. The Carvin is less than half the price better neck more options = workmanship and great CS!

I wouldn't pay that much new. I have been following the used prices for a while and they are so much lower. The hit you would take when reselling it is just too big.

I wouldn't pay over say $1400 for a SL2H but it would have to be one hell of a soloist. New I'd go about $1900 max, which I did.

$1250 for a used SL2H in great condition is about average.

I bought my SL1 used for $900 a few years ago. It's a 1989 and still plays amazing.

Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Oh, agreed, Blood. I grabbed a new transblack for about $1900 last summer. Only point being, if you can, never pay full price. Most dealers are willing to sell for less.

I bought my SL2HT (Burnt Cherry Sunburst) new in 2006 for $1,900 + tax. As soon as I played it, I knew I had to have it. I put down half my annual bonus and made payments all summer. Worth every penny. Those guitars have the most comfortable necks I've played. They're very well made, and they crunch like nothing else. The fret work is exactly what you should get for the money; they're crowned so precisely that I think it makes them intonate better than my other guitars.

Only you can decide if spending that much is the right choice for you, but I think this is an example of an expensive American guitar that's worth the price.
