I really like the 59/custom hybrid and the full shred....the gus g blackouts sounded the most 'right' to my ears for that riff.

Best metal pickup comparison demo ever. Kudos! That's fantasic.

Of the pickups used, for this kind of music, I prefer the Distortion and the 59/Custom the best among the passives and the Gus G from the actives.

I liked them all pretty much the same, there was a lot of gain so they tended to sound similar.
I really disliked the Dimebucker, that sounded horrible.

I'm going to state before I give my opinion that I'm really not a fan of metal.

That having been said, I think the hybrid wins hands down. I liked where it sat in the mix best.

I liked the Distortion the best. The EMTY sounded the most "right" for that riff though. By "right" I mean articulate and tight without being fizzy, which the Dimebucker sounds. The other Blackouts are close enough too which sound good as well.

I liked the custom then invader the best. The invader did not sound muddy to me. I am gonna have to try one. Out of the actives I liked the abh-2. The c/59 sounded great but lacked beef imo. I bet I would like it with a8

Odd... I actually really liked the Dimebucker. :-P

Funny thing is that I REALLY liked the JB in the mix, but solo it was nasal sounding... I mean, that's what I'm used to, but I guess I just never realized how well that DOES work in the mix. It would still probably drive me insane if it were ME in playing a JB in the mix, but I can appreciate it a bit more now.

I really do have to agree that the Gus G set sounded really spectacular.

Surprised in the difference in EQ you can hear. Invader sounds make for this. The Alt 8 seems down a little on volume. Turn it up a hair and it sounds better, then it is my favorite. The high resistance pickups have more treble than I would have thought. The JB is really middy. Like the Custom 2nd best. The Dime is really scooped. Great demo.

The Invader sounds great but it was feeding back. The ALT 8 sounds flat/constipated and the Dimebucker sounds harsh/bright. I was surprised by how good the Custom sounds and how good the Standard Blackout sounds. However the overall winner has to be the Gus G Blackout.

this riff did grow a little on me. I needed this demo for recommendations cuz I know this riffstyle is what the younger types wanna hear in a guitar tone.
It didnt help very VERY much because I listen to how certain chords ring out over 3 seconds when choosing pickups, but attack & eq wise, chords/high to low string activity, this is a great comparison! I would have preferred the nondrum versions first, that was a pleasant surprise.

Im gonna be sending alot of folks to this - thanks for doing this. Now do a single coil blues one & a classic rock humbucker one.

And unlike so many other intolerable demos, NO SCHMUCK RAMBLING ON at the beginning! Gawd i hate that! 6 min of ers & uhs, "the quality of the flame", "Im using acme picks, acme strings, treble is set to pi" yadayadayada, then u find out the unplugged guitar drowns out the laptop mic!!! Deth to Amateurs!

Wow! First of all, I'm amazed at the ability of the musician to play that riff that closely every time. When I play my own songs, they sound different every time. Second, I'm surprised by how closely all of the pickups sound to each other. The differences are subtle. (And yes, I have good speakers, on a good system.)

Having said that, for this style of music, and this amp setting, the Dimebucker nailed it for me, with the Blackout Metal a close 2nd.
