Default Need suggestions for pickup for Explorer...

I'm picking up a 2006 Explorer Thursday and I'm looking to get a Scorpions tone out of it. I know Jabs uses a JB but with low wattage amps (at least he used to, lol). Would a JB be too middy? I love the singing tone of a JB. I run a 5150 with a BBE, minimal pedals. It's 120 watts but I run it around 2 or 2 1/2. I used a Custom in another Explorer I had a couple of years ago (sold it like a dummy to get something I ultimately wasn't happy with) and it was great. Although I loved the tone, I still love that singing tone of a JB a little more. My combo in that one was a Jazz neck and the Custom. So I'm thinking JB, Custom, or maybe going lower output for a more vintage Scorps tone. Any suggestions? All are appreciated.

Do the JB...you'll probably regret it if you don't. It's sold in a set with the Jazz called the Hot Rodded Humbucker set...new $130.

If you want lower output, but still that singing tone...I'd recommend the Screamin Demon.

Lots of folks here say the JB is picky about being in a Gibson type guitar. Some folks have recommended the JB with an A2 magnet which might work better.

Jazz in neck sounds good though or you could go with a 59 as I did.

I put a hybrid Custom / 59 with an A2 mag in the bridge which gives a good snappy tone. Other popular choices for Gibson type guitars around here are the Custom or Custom 8.

I guess I should mention this Explorer has an ebony board. Big difference in pickup choice or no? It's coming with a 500T and 496R. Really like Duncan's better than Gibby pups though.

I say see how the 500t works out, then go for a JB if you don't dig it. You might be able to save some bucks if you dig the stock pickups!

Mag swapping on those pups tend to make them better souding. Check around for suggestions on which mags to use.

My explorer came with those same pickups and I found them too stifled sounding and just changed them out but they were OK for a while.
