    Default New Speaker!

Well as many know I have an old 67 or 68 Deluxe Reverb. When I got it it had an Eminence Speaker in it(not sure which one?) I was never really happy with it so a friend of mine gave me an old vintage 30. Well long story shorter, the amp was recently serviced to clean up some of the mud & my tech found many things wrong with it. After he reworked it the amp was much cleaner and brighter. The Vintage 30 isn't cutting it(to bright) so i went back to the original Eminence and so far its better but I'm not sure whether it could still tame some of the brightness of this amp. If I had to switch to another speaker to tame some of the highs what would you consider?

I know the Speaker is an Eminence but I don't know which one. Its well broken in, its been in this amp since I owned it(several years now) Is there a way I can tell by the numbers on it? And What brand is a C Rex? I know this sounds trivial but I have been playing most of my life & the first speaker I ever swapped was the vintage 30 that I put in this DR. It worked well at the time but I believ I was compensating for some bad things that were going on inside the amp. My Teck has recommended a Jensen C12N RI??

dont put the jensen in. dont. do. it. dontdoit. DONT do it.

the two best speakers for your amp (in my anything but humble opinion) are the celestion g12h or cannabis rex which is an eminence speaker in their patriot line.

the g12h is brighter and not as loud as the rex and more aggressive in the mids. the rex is balanced from high to low and warm on the high end. its not lacking high end but it never gets harsh or spikey. it does take some time to break in since the hemp cone is stiff when they are new. right out of the box youll like it better than the v30 but itll get better after that once it has some hours on it

the ugly upper mid spike in the v30 lol

edit: the g12h has a little deeper bottom end, the mids arent as peaky and the highs are clear without being harsh. the v30 can be a great speaker, just not the best match for this amp. it breaks up a earlier too but in our little 20w amps by the time you have the volume high enough to do that the amp is already pumping pretty hard

you know I think I am going to stay with this Eminence for a while. I played it with me 335 tonight & it sounded pretty damn good! With a Tele or Strat its a little to bright, but I should be able to tame it by rolling off the tone a bit! So far so good!

Before you swap speakers clip the bright cap...

Deluxe Reverbs don't have a bright switch like bigger Fender amps (Bandmaster, Twin, Super, etc...) they have the cap that would be on the bright switch wired up and on all the time...

If you clip that cap you can get the treble control up above 3 or 4 using a Strat w/o cutting peoples heads open!

C Rex would be your best bet from what you describe or maybe a Texas heat

This is definitely something to consider (and easy to do), especially if your complaint is at low volume. If your amp is turned up quite a bit, you may not notice (either way) the "bright cap" so much. Like I say, it is real easy to try.

As far as a speaker. Eminence RW&B
    best
