80s era Howard Roberts Fusion, one of my favorite Gibsons ( I don't own one). I had a 90s HR Fusion III which was very different, but always wanted an 80s version. I love the color. Any idea what this might be called in today's Gibson palette?

I'd say Vintage Sunburst- Tobacco Sunburst is usually alot lighter in the middle. could also be tri-color burst

I think that's the Vari-Brown finish...

That color is considered to be elegant and well suited for that guitar.
Tri-Burst might be a close match. I feel like it could be, if the yellow in the middle faded a bit... all bursts are different though.
I've always associated tobacco burst with a harder black edge, and vintage sunburst doesn't really have that orange quality to the mid fade, although my J45 has a similar color, but with a harder black edge.
Interesting.

Yeah... The HR Fusion I had had Much more defined colors with a bright yellow and very dark edges. BTW, the later models had a center block of balsa wood (!?!) and the 490 pickups made it super bright. I think it is time for this original model to make a comeback.
Might even be called Antique Sunburst.
Mid 80s Gibson? That'd most likely be Vintage Sunburst, or a tobacco burst that has faded. Although most VSBs I've seen have a slightly lighter brown around the edge.
EDIT: sorry ... I have no idea what modern Gibson finish would be similar.

I'm pretty sure it was called Tobacco Sunburst.

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.
Vintage burst. It looks the same as the Faded LP Jr that Gib's making.

Vintage burst is golden yellow into black.
Tobacco burst is golden yellow into dark burgundy.
That guitar is a tobacco burst.
If you can't play good, play loud.

I may be wrong but I thought Vintage Sunburst was the markrting name for what a lot of people call tobacco burst
Tri color or Fireburst has the red tone between the brown and yellow

< That's vintage sunburst...
