but I'm gonna give this a go, anyone tried it ? or thoughts ? Grassyass !

Not sure about the Tone pot, prolly 250k, its all I have handy.

Two of my Teles have a 500K volume and 250K tone. Takes a bit of the edge off so the singles don't kill you but the humbucker isn't mud.

I've wired up a switch so that the volume is 500k on the bridge-only position and 250k everywhere else.

    http://www.jumbleguitar.com/2012/04/...iring-diagram/

That's using stacks in the single coil positions and I wanted to split them in positions 2 and 4, so the wiring is a little more complicated. With regular single coils you could get away with a regular super switch.

I'm personally going to have 2 seperate volume pots, one 250K pot for the singlecoils and one 500K pot for the humbucker, as well as a 500K tone pot for both. Shouldn't be too much more (if any more noticable) treble on the singles, but better clarity for the humbucker and therefore more options for humbuckers on an HSS than only those which work well with 250K pots.

Derp... I just remembered that I wired this bad boy up with a 500K volume, a 250K tone on the middle and neck, and a 500K pot connected to the link between the coils so I can roll one coil of the Custom Custom off.

That's cool, I think some Washburns come with a feature like that. So you basically can do splitting without actual splitting and get in-between sounds as well.

    I have 500k vol + 250k tone on my jolly roger, with a Custom 8/Lil '59.

it's great. nice and full sounding, without being too bright or too dark.

The JB works well with 250k pots, but I always use 500k with the Custom-Custom. It already has very softened treble response and can sound a bit muddy in the wrong guitar. If I had to use a 250 volume on it, I would NOT also add a tone pot.

Her is the link I was supposed to include in the OP. I' gonna try the above wiring. With the Fralin vintage hots you get 3- really good strat tones, thats enough for now...Thanks !

That wiring diagram looks a bit whack to me. With the switch in the bridge position, the resistor in the 250K pot is running to ground in parallel with the 500K pot. That makes the volume pot on the humbucker effectively a 167K pot.

I'll take a look later and do you a diagram that does what he says his does.

Yeah, that diagram is wrong. Where the black wire of the bridge pup and green wire to the volume pot meet should be connected together, but lifted from the 5-way switch. In other words, the bridge hot should go only to the bridge volume pot, and then the output of the volume pot, on to the 5-way.

All that needs to be changed on that diagram is to lift the black/green connection.

P.S. That will still make the effective load 167k, but only when in the bridge/middle position.

If I was going to do this I'd use a super switch and do it properly.

Very little you can do without getting a super switch.

Why not get a super switch? Surely it won't break the bank, and at that point you can have everything exactly how you want it.

I'll have to look into a superswitch, all I really need is 500k volume for the CC

    so it will sound fuller.

One of us will do you a diagram. What do you want, 500k on 1 and 2 and 250k on the others?
