Talking new pickups in SG standard C5 bridge Pearly Gates neck. noodling guitar only...

noodling guitar only... thru my oxford tech 21, same settings for all really. I used my Black Arts Pharaoh fuzz for first half, and second half was my proco RatII - check out the ending - it cleans up nicely with the pushpull pots on the neck at the end

edit, only want finished songs on my soundcloud

    here is my signal chain:

Sounds good. How are you liking the new pickups compared to stock? (disregard if you've already said in the pickup lounge)

    cool, thanks ex-250

I like them a lot! I have been wanting SD pups for 10 yrs but just recently could afford em, being that I had a FRED in an epi les paul standard, and EMG81/85 in my epi SG standard.

    initial impressions:

the push pull coil splitting that I had installed is pretty killer for fuzz pedals since they like more dynamics for their oscillations, really organic nearing the p90/fender single coil territory.

what really shines is the pearly gates in the neck, I never could get a decent tone out of my neck pickup so I put this bright one in and wanna try it in some songs.

the c5 bridge is how gearjoneser described it to me compared to my SG gibson pup: less output, more definition, less grit/raspiness, lots of bass chug.

all and all, I am pretty stoked! cheers

That's my favorite SG set too. I've tried the Brobucker in the SG too, which I thought would be the end of the road, but needed one step in the hotter direction. C5 is great in an SG. PGn is my favorite neck humbucker, but I've left my similar Burstbucker 1 in that spot. So for me, it's C5/Burstbucker 1 right now. Pretty much the same.

I have the 59/C5 set in my sg. I've tried the C8 and the UOC5 too, but I keep coming back to the C5 in this guitar. It does the job for me. Both of my pickups are 4 conductor, so I'm thinking of adding a push pull pot too. Here's a few questions:

    - Do you have any problem installing a push pull, since the guitar cavity is a little smaller than a les paul?

    - Do you split both pickups letting the screw coil or the slug coil on?

    Nice clip, by the way.

yes with a new gibson it is hard to install pups and they take out the whole pot circuit board to install new pots, I had an expert that had installed hundreds do it, very nice guy and very knowledgeable...buyer beware, some techs are total hacks and can mess stuff up bad! dont have any more info than that though however...put the pushpulls on the tone knobs for less wear and tear and so you dont accidently hit em when using volume/strumming

thanks for listening, I am glad you dig the clip
