    Default SH4 b - First DIY

Just installed an SH4b and SH2 in a Gibson V. First time ever doing a pick up install.

Can anyone think of a reason why the bridge humbucker would be 5-6db quieter than the neck? Assuming pickup height to be equal on both. To me, the SH4 sounds thin and weak while the SH2 wants to tear your head off.

    Thought?

    1. Out-of-phase with itself. Verify black to hot, green to ground and red/white soldered and taped.
    2. Bad solder connection.
    3. The red/white wire taped, but not soldered.
    4. The red/white wire soldered but not taped, and thus, touching a ground wire after assembly.
    5. The red/white wires neither soldered or taped.

Those would be my first checks. And welcome to the forum.

I could definitely see this happening if you mixed them up. You didn't put the Jazz in the bridge, did you? The description of the Jazz wanting to tear your head off just doesn't make sense.

how are you measuring it to be able to determine the 5-6db?

Thanks guys for the fast response.

Ok, the red and white wires are both soldered and taped for sure.
The green is twisted with the ground and soldered to the pot(s).

The pu's aren't making any odd noises, really, and when I drive the bridge pu it sounds ok. It just lacks balls.

The neck pick up has tons of bottom end. Neither have a ton of sustain.

Did I get them switched, dear God in heaven I hope not. I will attach a pic (hopefully it works) so you guys can see the exterior at least. Maybe something will jump out at you.

Because Gibson is retarded (and maybe me too?) and put the bridge on top of the pickguard meaning I have to literally pull the bridge to look, this may take some time to trouble shoot.

Just know that I appreciate you guys trying to help me. Sincerely, that means a great deal.

Bump - Anyone know if the model of the PU is printed on the pack of the component?
