NEW GUITAR/PROJECT

Ordered this from Rondo (cheap, $160, cheap) on Thursday and got it on Saturday. I'm a lefty so all the cool guitars are super expensive (if you can find them), I'm also kinda cheap so Rondo is a win-win. Plus I'm not in a band, don't record, I just jam in my room. I like the Chris Garza Schecter 'Tele' but not a fan of 7 strings. I like the Thinline body so f@ck it, why not!?

Well let me back up a bit.....

I DID pay $10 extra for that top. ORIGINALLY I was going to sand off the clear and stain it either blue or green then do the black burst outer edge. Well turns out the top is ply (I know. read paragraph #1 again) and by the time I would sand ALL the clear out that paper thin piece would be long gone! I also wasn't expecting the wire route job between the PU's. I HATE pickguards, I was hoping that (pointless) hole wasn't there so I could just cut out a little cavity cover and have the rest of the top open. I decided to go 'rear route' last minute because it was easy. By plugging the holes (screw holes too) I ruined my chance of staining so silverburst it is!. Oh well, It's Saturday, parents (who have tools) are at Disney for a week and I got nothin' else to do.

I don't consider myself a luthier by any stretch, nor a wood worker, I work on cars. I did try to do all filling with as much wood as possible, not slapping a sh!t load of Bondo in the holes and calling it a day. Don't really care if i 'did it wrong', I'm happy with my work so save those post for somewhere else.

The Pic are done on a dumb-phone so their not great (not horrible though). The last pic is it painted but not cleared, I'll do that tomorrow. I'll get the outside pics then.

Thursday I'm going to order an unpotted GFS Pro alnico II for the bridge and an alnico V for the neck. It will be my 'classic rock' guitar. I decided on trying GFS pickups since they have a good selection, the discriptions are the same as all the name brands but for 1/2 the price and these are unpotted, which not many manufacturers do (for under $150).

I found this http://www.inlaystickers.com/servlet...ers/Categories website that has all kinds of inlay stickers which work great (I have 2 other sets already). I'm thinking about getting this one http://www.inlaystickers.com/servlet...Type%29/Detail, it'll match, it's cool and it's a $15 sticker so if I don't like it on the guitar I'll just take them off w/ no damage.

Last weekend I did the Tele and I also painted my 'Explorer' (I love working at a body shop!!!). A month ago I came up with the idea of having my roommate airbrush a '40s style pinup girl on it. About a week ago I thought 'it's getting a pinup girl, I like WWII airplanes so paint it like the side of an airplane. So far I have the airplane part of it done, it's metallic silver with a few black lines for body panels, hundreds of 'rivets' and a little USA insignia. Everyone who saw it so far says "Wow, that's bad-ass!" which got me thinking even more (I think a lot!), pilots name their aircraft and incorperate that into the 'nose art' so I'm going to have Jason (roommate) paint "BAD ASS" when he does the naked chick. I'll post pics of it later today, It wont be finished for a while since Jason is a full-time student pulling A's and that is #1 to him (and me).


PS. found out the water based 'enviromentally friendly' paint we just changed over to at work F@CKIN' SUX!!! If you spray it then get oil/dirt on it you really can't clean it without re-liquifying the paint and ruining your piece. THANKS CALIFORNIA! MIDDLE FINGERS FOR YOU!

That's the part I haven't decided on. I like black since it goes with everything, incase I don't like them in the Tele I can put them in something else and not worry about color issues. I also never had shiny pickups and with this being a silver guitar, shiny (not chrome) pickups would look cool. I think with the GFS Pros I'm getting the cost difference is like $5 between covered & naked.

If anyone has suggestions on it, I'm open.

Here is the sort-of finished Tele, I still have to sand and buff it. The pickups are the Super Distortions out of the 'Explorer' since it will be out of commission for a while. I'm hoping to order the GFS pickups tomorrow depending on my pay check. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Here's a pic of the 'Explorer' I mentioned in an earlier post. My part is done, now Jason (roommate) will do the airbrushed pinup girl. He talked to me today about having the girl sitting on a bomb kinda Dr. Strangelove style, I said I like the general idea and that I trust his art work/judgement so he can do what he wants. So far everyone who has seen it said it's 'bad-ass' so I told Jason to incorperate 'Bad Ass' into the design. It should live up to it's name!
