Default anyone changed mag in a dimarzio super D?

Just wondering. I have a super distortion (ceramic) in a guitar that i like a lot, but in this particular guitar the top end is a bit thin. Would the super D work well with a mag change ans if so, does anyone sell alnico in the size they use in the SD, which is thicker and not as wide as the typical HB magnet ?

What exact guitar did you try the pickup on? It is possible that the excess treble is an unavoidable by-product of its materials and hardware.

On many DiMarzio humbuckers, there is a plastic "leg" on the underside of the bobbins rather than the wooden spacer found in traditional humbuckers. This may restrict which magnets sizes can be fitted.

^ IMO when the OP says 'top end is a bit thin', he's refering to weak treble.

A regular sized ceramic would brighten it up

Caveat: These mags are glued in. A PIA to loosen and get out.

Don't know why they do that, especially prevelant with their ceramics. Some glues are rubber and its easy to pry the mag off, others are epoxy and require chiseling (the mag will come off in many pieces).

It's in a epi nighthawk, and I already took the mag out and the coils off and mounted it on the SLANTED plate the stock pickup was moutnted on. The nighthawk comes with a proprietary slanted humbucker in the bridge. Seymour makes a couple models for it but i don't like either. So i mounted the SD on the slanted plate and it works fine but in this guitar the top sounds a bit thin with it. Not to a fault, but a tad more than i usually find with SD's. The guitar isn't bright so i'm not sure why. But in any case the magnet was easy to remove and i just needed some spacers to remount it all on that plate. But i'm just trying to get an idea of what i can do magnet wise considering all the magnet types and considering the SD's different mag size. I'm thinking maybe a dremel an cut-off wheel to cut the width of a UOA5 or a regular A5 and use whatever spacers i may need to get it mounted. I have a UOA5 coming for my 59/hybrid in another guitar, and if i'm sure i like it much more than the stock A5 i could use the A5 ct down in the SD. Just wondering if the SD is for any reason not a good candidate for a mag swap. Was hoping someone had tried it.

To date SD has been rather conservative with the Nighthawk replacement model choices. IMO, a '59/Custom hybrid in this format would be the dog's danglies.

Yeah, i've been considering that. I like the one i have in a tele a lot, but they are extremely different sounding guitars so it's hard to really know. I've also considered a custom.

an A2? It could smooth out the highs a lot.

I think a SD Custom would be even brighter than the superD.

An A5 could be the worst solution imho.
