I put the one I fixed that came from Steve Alysis in my lowly LTD EC, and it's not coming out to go into a Super Strat. It's not exactly an LP, but it's all mahogany with a thick LP shaped body, and the screw coil was unwound a bit on the pickup, 100 turns or so, but it sounds motherf-ing badass. In a strat I think I might find it a little thin, I think it's the warm sounding guitar making the magic happen for me.
It's a surprising pickup, can be real aggressive and screaming, and seems hotter than it is until you play light or turn down the gain/volume. It's bright, but not overly so, kinda reminds me of a DD, similar aggressiveness, but it's a PAF and still resembles one.
I don't have a real LP, but if I did it would have one of these or a PGb in it [period].
I'm pretty sure Eddie had Seymour wind him a '78 equivalent and put it into at least one of his pauls, flying v and or 335. Eddie would switch guitars in the studio and we'd never know the difference.

My 78 had a permanent place in my Burny until I went to play with a friend at home volumes and used his Mesa DC-5. It tried to take our heads off.
The 78 is very "sharp" and you need to make sure that you will always have access to a rig that makes it sound right. A DC-5 at low volumes didn't not mix well to put it mildly.
It still rips played through the right rig, of course.

That "sharp" thing uOpt is talking about is how it reminds me of a Distortion, maybe that helps you decide if it's for you or not. The attack is very immediate too, like a single coil, I didn't say that before, but it's a key ingredient. I said it in that other thread, I really think it's a better Screamin' Demon.

Yeah it has a bit of the Demon's "sharpness", although the Demon is much worse and not usable for me at all.
I still rate the '78 as my best pickup overall (in a LP). I would just have to make sure I have a different guitar ready for when I don't play my own rig.

You guys are selling me on it. I have a Screamin Demon bridge in my other LP and love it. It works real well with my amp vht deliverance 60.

Actually that is the right question to ask.
The pickup that he used in the floyd guitar isn't the '78 model. The 78 model is for hardtails like his destroyer. For the floyd guitars you want that duncan-made Fender pickup which is wound substantially higher, possibly with awg43.
Substantial parts of the early recordings were with the hardtails, although live he didn't bother to change guitars song by song.
So yes, the brown sound you get out of the '78, in a hardtail, although maybe not quite a Les Paul. Eruption uses the equivalent of the heavier Fender sold pickup.

Oddly enough, I'm not looking for that brown sound per se. Rather, the feel, characteristics, and attributes from it.

I had one awhile ago and I dug it, it was to Eddie for me in the long run, it was fun though

They are GREAT in an LP...
Forum bro Luke Duke put one in his R8...we compared it to the Antiquity in my R8 and were surprised how similar they were!
The 78 is stronger, punchier and a bit snottier and has a more compressed attack and has a little more ZING on top but they are for sure in the same family of tone!
Sounds good to me. I had one in an LP (before I was fed up with LP's), and although it sounded great, it wasn't as punchy as I would have liked. So that became my blues axe. I recently put one in a Carvin carved top 24 (mahogany neck, body, and top), and I love the sound. Perfect for the few times I play lead instead of rhythm, especially on power ballads. Good luck.

I may be the only one to ever try it, but it holds together in B really well, just throwing that out there.
