    Default Blackouts polarity

    Hello everyone,

I recently got an 8-string guitar with Blackout pickups. I am still curious about the 'strange' sound I get when combining neck+bridge pickups (middle switch position), since it is pretty weak. So I checked the electronics, among other things, and found out that the pickups have opposite polarity/phase. I did this using a magnet and looking at the waveform once recorded. So this explains why the signal is so weak when I combine both.

The question is: are they supposed to be of opposite polarity? Does anyone know about this? I find it weird.

    Thanks.

    welcome to the forum!

that does sound a bit odd. the neck and bridge models might be rw/rp from each other for some reason but i cant see why they would do that. have you tried calling them?

    Hello Jeremy.

I have just sent an email, I am outside the US. I will let you know what they answer back.

    Thanks!

    bsys:

Welcome to the forum. And sorry to hear about your pickup problems.

The symptoms you describe definitely sounds like one of the pickups is out of phase. This could be caused by the magnets being installed wrong or the coils being wound or hooked up improperly. Either way, we should get you a new set of pickups.

You should be able to return the pickups to the store you bought them from, or from your local distributor. If you bought the pickup outside the USA, you'll need to return it to the store or the distributor.

Again, sorry for what sounds like a defective pickup.

Thanks for your answer. They came with my guitar, a Schecter Blackjack ATX C-8. Since I did not buy the pickups myself, am I supposed to contact Schecter in this case?

    Thank you.
