Do you believe that certain things are "above" or "exempt from" criticism? Or is anything and everything open to critical discussion?

No.
End of discussion.
EDIT: in all seriousness there's a lot of stuff that I hold as fact, but I try to at least listen to differing ideas. I don't necessarily like engaging in critical discussion at times but it can often lead to new ideas and processes. Sometimes the effort is worth it in the end.

Every love that made me lose my reasoning. Every chord that made my conscience ache. Every day spent counting hours. Well, none of them comes close to singing back a song inside my head.
I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.

Yes. I am above criticism.

My mother.
Your mother, on the other hand...

Given the fact that I had to look up the meaning of Derp, I think I may have to quit the internet.

Nothing should be above/beyond criticism. At the end of the day, the only way we (or anything) improves is to take a critical look at it.
However, we may want to consider carefully how we are prioritizing what we are criticizing and why. There is a time and place for everything, including wasting time. Be sure it's the right thing, at the time.
Question everything, that's my motto.
Everything is up for debate, because there never has been nor never will be a flesh-and-blood human that can dictate otherwise. Unless they want their teeth removed with a pair of rusty pliers, which I happen to have handy.

Not even Jesus is above my criticism.
Henry David Thoreau - "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them."

He and his followers are usually first in line for me, shortly followed by others of the same ilk.

Great question.

Let the record show that Dave Murray is exempt.
