Jangle from p90?

Hi,
I know that p90s can do lots of sounds, and have a lot of character, but not having a guitar with p90s I simply can't check it out.
My question is: can P90s jangle (in kind of Rickenbacker / Danelectro way) if they're tapped below the "vintage" specs?
I know that jangle comes from low output singles (and yes, i know that p90s are rather fat sounding and medium to high output).
So is it possible? Chime in!

One way you could accomplish it without modding the pickup would be to install a bass- bleed tone control, like Joe posted about...a month or so ago.

The coil of a P-90 is approximately 7/8ths of an inch wide. There is a goodly amount of copper wound on there AND two magnets. It cannot help but sound fat.

Obtaining a Rick/Dano-like tone would require one seriously skilled pickup winder to get the tapped portion of the coil to sound right without messing up the full output. In my opinion, one sound demands a tall, narrow coil and the other a shallow, wide coil.

One alternative might be a P-90 Stack wired to switch between series and parallel coil connection. (Series for power, parallel for clarity.)

Another is the TV Jones range of 'Tron style pickups.

Brevity on the scale that you suggest would have failed to explain the reasons why P-90s don't really do jangle.

into layman's terms

Rick / Dano construction is also a factor here. Those guitars have Jangle acoustically - for different reasons, but that is their character.

Find a vintage speced P90.

Set this P90 low under the strings.

Rise its pole pieces.

Use a "50 wiring" with a good PIO cap and lower the tone in the same time that you lower the volume.

Listen: your question should be answered (at least if you and I have the same definition of "jangle").

You could always add a Bass Cut switch à la Fender Jaguar. This passive High Pass Filter should thin things out for you.

Lowering volume AND tone with a 50's wiring has the same kind of effect.

It's something that I abundantly use on stage when I play my single P90 axe.

Note that I have a treble bleed network in another guitar and a complex wiring including a switchable high pass filter in a third one: all these recipes work but for +/- 8k gibsonish pickups, I prefer and therefore recommend the good ol' 50's wiring (with PIO caps).
