RMC 3 Settings

Hey all,

I finally got around to getting myself a Teese RMC 3.

There are plenty of people here who are fans of it. Does anyone have ball park settings to get any of the following sounds?

Alice in Chains

I bought it second hand off Ebay. It didn't come with a card on how to adjust it to various sounds. Seeing as its touted as being a very good sounding and very versatile Wah I was hoping some of you guys could point me in the right direction as to settings.

There are SO many adjustments and settings on the RMC 3 your best bet is to contact Geoff and ask him for the sample settings.

Not all of the settings you are asking about are on there but it is a good way to get started and by going over the sample settings you'll have a better understanding of how to dial in things that are not listed on the sample card.

First off, the best way to start is to get used to what the controls do. You will need to have your instrument in a stand so you can strum/strike the open strings. You will also need to have the bottom plate off your RMC3 so you have access to the controls.

While holding the wah upside down, engage the effect and strike the open strings of your instrument. Start at the LOW control and rotate it from one extreme to the other, listening to what it does to the tone and harmonics of the wah. Do the same with the MID control. The Q control has a less obvious effect on the sound than the two previous controls. Still, you should be able to hear a different attack or sweet spot from one extreme to the other. Full counterclockwise give a smooth effect. You can add more of a quack the more clockwise you turn the control. The VOLUME control is a fairly straightforward control. Just be sure not to have it too low.

The 9-pole DIP switch expands or compresses the SWEEP (frequency range) of the RMC3. The switches are set up in a sonic progression covering 9 octaves. Switch #2 equals the sonic range of switch #1 AND the max (9:00) FINE TUNE adjustments. Switch #3 is the sonic equal of switch #2 PLUS switch #1 AND the max (9:00) FINE TUNE adjustments...and so on. This overlapping stair step sequence lets you select the depth and width of the pedal's actual frequency sweep. The higher the number switch(es) selected, the wider and deeper the sweep will be.

The two trimmers next to the DIP switches let you FINE TUNE the primary SWEEP settings. Turning the trimmer to line up the solder dot on the part that turns with the "leg" (solder point @ 9:00 on extension) adds a touch more sweep to the DIP settings. Turning the trimmer to the 3:00 position adds less. While these tuners can be turned 360 degrees, only the half-turn from 3:00 to 9:00 is required to make the transition from bass to treble.

THERE ARE SIX VARI-TUNE CONTROLS ON YOUR RMC3 BOARD

LOW - The LOW (1st/top) trimmer enhances or cuts the low frequencies in the sweep. This control affects resonance, and acts as an output booster due to the increased strength of the frequency enhanced signal. The Q contour should be checked after adjusting this trimmer.
MID - This (2nd) trimmer boosts or cuts mid-range frequencies and also effects vocal quality, as the human voice falls mostly into mid-range frequencies. It can be used to subtract some of the boominess which may come from saturation of the LOW control.
Q - The (3rd) trimmer controls the Q, or resonance, of the inductor. Turning this trimmer changes the resonant peak contour (sweet spot), affecting where and how quickly it occurs in the pedal's sweep. The effect is smoothest and most like the U.S. made V-846 at minimum (counterclockwise) rotation, and sharpest, most closely resembles the Picture Clyde McCoy at the maximum (clockwise) rotation.
VOL - (4th) This controls the "wet" signal output strength and is used to balance the affected signal with the bypassed signal, so there is no drastic change in volume when the pedal is switched in or out.
FINE TUNE - The two trimmers (5th & 6th) let you subtly fine tune the primary SWEEP DIP settings. Turning the trimmer to line up with the "leg" (solder point @ 9:00) adds bass. Turning the trimmer to the 3:00 position adds treble. While these tuners can be turned 360 degrees, only the half-turn from 9:00 to 3:00 is required to make the transition from bass to treble.
