Thinking of knocking the "pretty" off of my SG Supreme.

I bought a used SG Supreme on eBay a few weeks ago. I love the guitar, but it's too pretty. I know it sounds weird. I'm not really digging the flame top and finish. I'd like to refinish it so that I'm not so scared to play it like it needs to be played. I'm thinking about going with a satin black finish. I have no clue where to begin. Any suggestions?

If you really love the guitar and don't care about resale value, you could just knock the shine down and make it a faded. I've been tempted to do that with my sunburst Jackson.

I agree that the SG Supreme is ugly, but I just don't get it. That's like buying a Lincoln Towncar and turning it into a Crown Vic. You end up spending way more than you need to, and destroying a nice, high-end thing. I'd sell it to someone who will appreciate it for what it is, and get another SG that speaks to you from the get go.

Sounds to me like you have the wrong guitar. Sell it and buy one that is either the way you want it to look or one that is begging to be refinished.
