Question Which Would You Buy First?

EDIT 6/28: I WENT AHEAD AND BOUGHT THE TELE, SO IF YOU WANT TO READ/POST/VOTE, KNOW THAT GOING IN

I have an opportunity to expand my guitar collection by one. My budget here is about $450. I'm torn on which I should go. Main function of the new instrument is to give me a new tone toy. Eventually I want them all but I can't do it all at once, so which one first?

Option one: a 7 string Ibanez that I would basically use as a baritone. I would upgrade to some Duncans.

Option two: Fender Modern Player Thinline Tele. I'd most likely rip off the pickguard and P90s and put in Antiquities humbuckers. With the semi-hollow mahogany? Awesome!

Option three: Least likely, but its in budget. Schecter 8 string. For the same $$$, why not go 8 instead of 7? Go for Blackouts on this one.

Cast your votes... And feel free to ask if i'm crazy.

As a person who has a 7-string Ibanez with Seymour Duncan's, I can get behind this option. Mine's a Japanese hardtail, set up with a high action and 10-56 strings.

I'm personally pretty turned off by the size of the 8-string necks I've seen; YMMV.

I think you should go 7 string before going 8 string. and 7 string over fender cuz it's more br00tz.

What guitars do you have now?

Personally, I would get the Modern Player Thinline Tele... I played one the other day, and I really liked it. But that's just me... lol

Ya'll trying to guilt me into not getting an Ibby 7 last month when my friend did?

    ...

(I'm hoping to set aside some $ for an NT ESP 7 instead.)

I like both. I love the modern player tele. But I loved playing an Ibanez 7 the other day as a baritone with a high E added (instead of a standard guitar with an added low B). So it's a tough call for me. Get a shred-able axe that can do metal, be played as a baritone, or be played with all 7 strings, or get a guitar that has a tone all it's own. What the Tele lacks in versatility, it makes up for in unique tone.

As requested, here's the Axe list and any upcoming (important) mods:
    - Custom made guitar (Strat Shape) w/C5 & SD Custom Shop Hot '59n
    - Gibson Explorer w/stock 500T & 496R
    - Gibson Trad Pro Explorer w/ Stock BB3 & '57n Classic
    - Fender Amer. Spec. Strat HSS w/Stock Atomic HB & 2 Texas Specials
    - Schecter C-1 Cust. w/CC & '59n (soon to be a C8 & '59n w/A2 mag)
    - Fender Blacktop Strat (swapping in a C/'59 & A2Pn down the road)
    - Fender Standard Strat conv. to Blacktop (swapping in a '59b & Jazz.n down the road)
    - Epiphone Les Paul Standard (swapping in a Custom & Slash A2Pn Soon)

I know I probably don't need any new guitars, but I want more... MORE... MORE!!!

    One other Idea...

Buy the tele, and set-up another axe for Baritone tuning with heavier strings. It doesn't give me the 7-option, but gets the lower register. Thoughts?

7 string, 8 string, or a Tele? Can't we have more choices?

Why do you want the 7/8 string? I don't think either of those is NECESSARY.

I also don't understand why you'd bother buying a tele with P90s to route it for humbuckers that seems like a waste of time/money when you could just upgrade the P90s to something much better or even get a humbucker in P90 size/form. You don't have a P90 guitar and I think P90s are the best pickups. My main axe is loaded with P90s you get great lead and rythm tones, great cleans, great dirties. Very three dimensional and dynamic tones are available.

I think doing the P90 esp in a semi hollow would be the more logical choice since you don't have either already. And I'm sorry I just don't see the need for 7/8 strings. Use alternate tunings if you want a broader range of tones.

+1. Agree on all points. ExplorersRock: What the hell are you thinking? This whole things convoluted and destined to end in disappointment.

Why not a nice bottle of vodka, and a cheap hooker?

The 7 string would be cool.

Because a cheap bottle of vodka won't give you herpes/crabs/gonorrhea.

    Go for the tele!

Because if you can still get it up after a gallon of any vodka, it's not going to matter whether the hooker is cheap or not. Times are tough. Gotta be frugal wit yo moniez!

Cheap vodka is going to make ya feel like hell in the morning anyway, so you might as well pound a fatty to match that hangover and have an excuse for both.

I'd get the Ibanez. It'll be something different to incorporate into songs and it's built for low tunings so you don't have to worry about using your other gear for that. The Tele's nice but I'm sure with some tweaking you can achieve something similar, especially if you don't want the P90's. Seems like a waste.
