how do we know he doesn't like P90's and I think it's silly that when you have 8 guitars you would setup every single one in standard tuning and only use humbuckers. Except the one FAT strat.

And P90's can handle very heavy sounds.

I guess I'm not a shredder so maybe that's why I think investing in a 7/8 string is pointless.

I'll take the baritone or a 6 string in open g/d anyday to a 7/8 string.

Frankly I'd rather have a different sound in my collection too hence why I suggested the tele since it offers a new style of pickup as well as being semi hollow providing a chunkier/airier sound and different tonality.

Something that hasn't really been mentioned either is how uncomfortable most 7 and 8 string guitars are to play.

+1 to Indie Folk Guy and Blueman335 for putting me in my place. Seriously, I feel dirty right now. Is it ok to drink the cheap bottle of Vodka while I cry in the shower?

To answer a couple questions quickly. The whole point of the 7 string was to broaden register options and playing options. The 8-string was the same price so it was more of a "why not" kinda thing. The Tele is obvious. Different sound entirely. The idea of having mahogany instead of ash and P90s instead of standard Tele single coils appealed to me.

I will say that my idea of going to buckers was two-fold: 1.) I've always wanted a Thinline Tele, especially in mahogany, but unless I wanted to go Squier, it ain't cheap and even getting a Warmoth body would make the project expensive. Seriously think about it... a body and neck for $400 and you can do whatever you want. 2.) In the event that the P90s don't do it for me (notice I said IF, so far I dig 'em), the thought of Antiquity buckers in semi-hollow mahogany made me smirk devilishly. Besides, I'm still learning about what P90 options are out there, so HB options are my main knowledge base.

I really appreciate Indie Folk Guy chiming in here. After reading his first post, it really cleared it up for me and reminded me what initially intrigued me about the Tele. The following off-topic banter was awesome, even if it made me feel like a pretentious turd. If I want a lower register, I'm just gonna set-up a standard 6 in Baritone tuning or down the road spring for a baritone (I wish I could afford the Gibson Limited Run Baritone Explorer out right now). And now...

    A PICTURE OF THE WINNER!

Not to be a jackass, but here's why most of my guitars have humbuckers. Because I want to try DIFFERENT humbuckers! I hate to state the obvious, but not all humbuckers sound the same! My two Explorers aren't even close. The 500T/496R can kick out some awesome metal and heavy rock, but definitely have some limits. The Trad Pro with it's BB3/'57 Classic have really great vintage-style sounds and can really do a lot with cleans and some decent gain.

On tunings, I do have standard, 1/2 step down, whole step down, Drop-D, and Drop C#. Occasionally I've ventured into open tunings, but not a lot. Agreed here. Having one tuning option would be unreasonably limiting when you have multiple guitars.

In fairness, having something other than HBs is always a good idea. I love the Texas Specials in my HSS Strat, and should I ever get a Tele with standard single coils, I dig the Duncan Quarter Pounds. Someday... I wanna try lipstick tubes!

He said he'd put in a set on Antiquity humbuckers in there. I think P90's are well suited for lots of stuff, you won't get that arguement outta me. I'd say get the Tele only if you keep the P90's or some form of them. If you're buying it just to put humbuckers in there just buy the Ibanez or like you said, a baritone 6 string. I'd also like to add if you're going for the Tele I believe it's on sale at GC, if you have them around you.

one of the guitars I built at the business is called the hot n cold it's a tele style. I installed a set of the custom tappable quarter pounders in it so you can get kinda the meaty full on quarter pounder sound plus a more vintage output sound. Needless to say this one looks like a 52 ri butterscotch blonde, vintage tinted maple neck/fingerboard, black pickguard, etc.

I think you should really try some alternate tunings aside from your drop tunings. It really expands what you can do with the instrument. I also would love the baritone idea. I just never found a 7/8 string that felt comfortable to play.

And obviously I am very well aware of how many humbuckers are available but there are just as many variations of single coils (strat, tele, jazzmaster, jaguar, p90, dynasonic, vox, dipinto, and others).
