Default Specific Gibson ceramic disc caps needed

    Hi there
    This is a long shot.
I was wondering if any of you out there may have specific Gibson ceramic discs caps I need?
I am hoping that some of you may have some lying around in your parts drawer when you have upgraded the electrics of a Gibson etc they you may have to sell to me?
I think they were common between late 80's - early 90's?
    They had the markings
    MP
    203M
    100v
    Printed on them.
Do any of you have some of these eaxct caps? (i.e exactly the same not another cermic disc made by another brand but of the same values)
If so would you sell them to me?
I am trying to replicate a certain guitar that has these caps in and these caps are the last thing I need to finish my guitar off.
I know I wouldnt be able to tell the difference between ceramic dics but it's my ocd that needs to find these exact caps.
I have attahced a picture of them.
    cheers

yeah there is a couple of vintage Gibson harnesses on ebay at the minute that have these caps but they are like $100 as you get all the pots etc with it.
I don't really fancy paying $100 just for 2 cheap ceramic disc caps as the rest of the harness I do not need or want LOL.

It's just a generic ceramic cap. Gibson doesn't even make them. They are purchased from another supplier. Find one from anywhere with the same value and voltage rating and call it a day.

Your OCD is getting in the way of good tone. The caps used by Gibson are the cheapest of the cheap. Always have, always will.

You should get these ones, it doesn't get any better than them, just more expensive:

Looks very similar to something I have in my EMG-loaded Strat. I'll get back to you. It would only be one, though, and maybe not the right value. You need two, right?

FWIW, I don't think the cap will matter one bit to your tone unless you are running your tone pots around 0 most of the time.

P.S. An M tolerance code means +/- 20 percent. These caps really are pretty bad. I wouldn't bother tracking them down. That said, I will still take a look to see if my Strat's cap will work.

LtKojak - I know you are correct.
I do have better caps in some of my other Les Paul's.
It's just this one I want to be the same as the guitar I replicating.
My ocd sucks I know LOL.

ItsaBass - Thanks for the offer dude but if it's in a Strat im pretty sure it will be a different value so I wouldn't waste your time. Cheers though

You can also try www.smallbearelec.com. They might be able to help.

You're going to drive yourself crazy over something so small. The cap is just shunting highs to ground. Get yourself a .020uf (203) or .022uf (223) 100V ceramic disc cap and toss it in there. At the end of the day it doesn't matter because you won't be able to hear the difference between one of those from Gibson or one from Radio Shack of the same value.

Can you imagine how it is over the things that matter?

I think it's pretty cool what he's doing, trying to exactly replicate a guitar he clearly love(d/s). I wouldn't do it myself, I'd just get an orange drop, but still, if that's what he wants to do, why not?

FWIW I might have some that are tied to the....get ready for it.....100K pots that came in my '84 335. I'll look for ya.

I ripped a couple of those out of my '89 Custom, replaced them with orange drops (much better sounding). Might have them around in my parts bin. They are literally $.05/ea, i'd throw them in an envelope and mail them to you, but that would be a waste of an envelope & stamp.

Shame you're OCD about them because I happen to have an RS Guitarworks .022 Cap that you can have mate ( always support UK members )
I've only got one though but they're much better than the cap you're looking for, which looks like these..

    Not to him.

He might even keep the envelope as an heirloom.

wow this has stirred some peoples opinions LOL.
I agree with everyone that I will not be able to tell the difference between different brands with the same values but apart from my brain will know they aren't exactly what I want/need.
My guitar is replicated in everyway apart from these caps now which are the last things I need to finish it off.
Don't get me wrong I annoy myself (and my poor wife that has to put up with me) with my stupid ocd ways LOL.

Luke Duke and JPH118 I have PM you guys.

Its an early Les Paul Pre-Historic.
They were Gibsons first attempts at a 50's re-issue but apart from cosmetic changes the innards were just the same as a regular Les Paul Standard from that era (with modern wiring). Hence the ceramic disc caps, not PIO caps and vintage wiring.
