    Default New CHEAP pedal day.

Stopped at a local shop to grab some more strings and they had almost all the Behringer pedals on sale for $20. I figured for $20, what the hell. Some people rip on them, so some seem to really like them. Good time to find out for myself. I didn't have long to shop around cuz the everyone was waiting in the car for me and it was hot as hell out. I did a quick once over trying to think of the ones I've actually looked into a bit and grabbed the 7band EQ and the Digital Multi FX box.

To be straight, I've not spent a lot of time with either. By the time we got home it was starting to get late and I was already tired before we left. Both ran into the front of my Tremoverb.

The EQ was surprisingly good. I fully expected as soon as I turned it on to be noisy, fuzzy, and suck the tone straight out of my amp. Not the case at all. I didn't notice any extraneous noise or tone suck. Everything worked exactly as it should have. The sliders are kind of wobbly, but I don't think they'll just fall out or anything like that.

The Multi FX has a setting for phase, chorus, delay, tremolo, flange, and pitch shift. I really didn't spend much time with this one at all. Mainly just turned knobs to make sure everything was working. To be completely fair, I don't like any kind of digital modulation or time based effects ran in front of the amp. It makes them sound kind of fake and weird. Once I've had a chance to put it in the loop of one of my amps and turn some knobs, I'll give it a full review.

I can say this much. I've always stayed away from these pedals because of the negative publicity they get. I'm impressed enough this far that I will try some more of them. There is also a caveat to these that almost everyone should know by now. They are plastic and there's no way in hell I would take them on any stage unless they were rack mounted. If you're going to go as far as rack mounting them and using a switching system, then you've already defeated the purpose of them IMO. So far they are just what they need to be. Cheap DECENT sounding pedals to mess around with at home. If you expect anything more, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Oh def. not! I don't think the housing itself would actually break. For being plastic, they feel pretty sturdy. Like PVC pipe sturdy. I don't think the switch could handle it though. I think the switch and pots are the biggest structural at risk parts.

Some of the OD's I've bought in the past couple years have been for a ridiculously low price.

First, the MXR Classic OD in both green and cream. Got them for $30 a piece. I love those pedals. A huge bang for buck score.

For a holiday weekend, they sold the Zakk Wylde OD for $30, and I just relisted it for $60.

One huge sleeper pedal is the Marshall Gov'nor II. Marshall may be ditching the line, so you may find some Marshall pedals popping up cheap. Buy any you see. They're good pedals. A lot of people spend big bucks on OD's that do the Marshall in a box thing. I saw some Gov'nor II's at Sam Ash for $30, and used a $10 coupon. Got it for $20. It's truly a Marshall in a box.....it should be....it's made by Marshall!

I think it's gotten to the point that the market is so saturated (pun intended) with pedals that competition has gotten fierce. There's a lot of good deals out there to be had. The days of Boss, MXR, and Digitech ruling the roost are long over.

The main issue with behringer is the Plastic Housing. Apart from that I think it is ok for home use .

Nice review. Enjoy! Honestly, who cares if a pedal costs $30 or $330, so long as it fuels your creativity.
Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!

I bought the Joyo JF-06 Vintage Phase pedal recently. Script Phase 90 clone with true bypass at less than a third of the MXR price. Sounds great to me and seems pretty well built. It's going on my gigging pedal board! Let's hope it lasts...

Behringer kind of reminds me of the time when Ross and Ibanez pedals first came out. Everyone thought they were the apex of suckosity back in the day too.

I have the PH-9 phaser and the VD-1 Vintage Distortion. They totally fit my need for a more subdued and subtle Phase 90, and for a more focused and defined Big Muff Pi.
Their versions of MXR and EHX pedals are metal--not plastic.
They really can't be beat in the "bang for your buck" department...

There's a difference in being a tone snob and biased to certain brands. I'd consider myself a tone "snob" because I'm very picky about how my gear sounds and functions. Be it guitar, car audio, home theater, and so on. Brand names don't matter to me much anymore. If me, myself, and I like how it sounds and it works for us 3, I could really give 2 sh!ts what name is on it.

I see a lot of "group think" in forums and it's not just limited to guitar forums either. If there's a clique of people in a forum that think something is good or bad, they gain followers and said product is either hyped up or tossed to the wolves. A lot of times, by people that haven't even tried the product for themselves. It goes on here to some extent, but to give this place credit, a lot of the people here are pretty open minded when it comes to various products. You want to see group think in full on mode, go over to TGP for awhile.

Same concept but different type of forum. I remember when the Saiga rifles first popped up. I think about every gun forum I visited was bagging on them pretty hard saying they were junk etc....Now vendors can't keep the dam things in stock because they're actually really solid rifles.
