    Default Big Muff positioning...

    I'm looking at getting a Big Muff to put on my pedalboard. Is it better to place it before my JH-1 Hendrix wah or after it?? Does it suffer in a similar way to Fuzz Faces?

    My current setup is Guitar->Wah->Tuner->Comp->Plexitone Prototype->HT-Dual drive->Mod->Delay->Amp

    I'm planning on removing the Plexitone, so that I can have that as a grab and go setup, and was thinking of dropping the Muff straight in...

    you don't have a loop? why is your delay in front of the input?

    He uses a JTM45 and gets all his drive from pedals

    I don't know how good the bypass is on newer Big Muffs but the bypass on mine was awful. It pretty much destroyed the tone for anything that came after it in the FX chain, so I used mine towards the end. Probably not the best place for it really but I had to make it work.

    I'm thinking of the Tone Wicker version, as I like the options that it gives.

    And yeah, no loop on my JTM45.

    I have a Mark V with a foot-switchable effects loop, and I run delay in front of the amp.

    It depends what you're trying to achieve. If you want rhythmic, timed echo with noticeable repeats ("Where the Streets Have No Name" or "Run") put it in the loop. If you want atmospheric, washy echo that has no truly discernible repeats (the solo from "Time") put it in front of the amp.

    I do this too, gets pretty nasty on the Mark III though. I've actually never tried a delay through the loop, but there's supposedly something goofy about the old Boogie loops too, I don't know if my DD-2 would play along very well.

    You should be fine placing it after the wah. The fuzz faces are finicky because of the way they interact with your guitars pickups/volume knob, and as such should be placed right after the guitar.

    Muffs are more like distortions I find in how the react to pedals in front of them (much more predictable and controlled) my FZ-2 on the other hand treats wah in front as a weird harmonic shift (no real change in tone but either slightly more or slightly less high end fuzz) and trips out a bit with a flange in front of it.

    How do you like the Tone Wicker Muff, and do you use the switches much??

    Seriously for a second....you can run muffs pretty well anywhere in the chain. They are not finicky like fuzz faces. Have fun experimenting.

    The best position for a big muff is over a swollen pickle.

    Surely whatever anyone says in this thread you're going to try all your options out and see which one sounds best anyway?

    I ended selling it (need to update my Sig) I thought it was ok but too scooped at least with my setup and ended up getting lost in the band. The no tone control switch was cool the presence thing was too harsh
