My 1st guitar was a cheapy RH Jackson. I was trying to learn to play RH since I saw all the LH problems. End result- didn't work for me so I'm stuck with LH curse.

I'm guilty of playing right handed as well. I guess this makes chording easier for me but leads can be tough for me.

THere are and have been a lot of great players who are lefties that play right: Steve Morse, John McLachlan, BB King, Rik Emmett, Duane Allman. I seem to recall reading that Al DiMeola is also a lefty who plays right but I could be wrong on that one.


It has made life easier when it comes to buying guitars.

I tried the opposite for about a month. I bought a Korean Dean Z. I learned A and D chords and was working on an E string pentatonic riff. Then my friend Jody came over saw the Lefty Dean Z and informed me he was "rescuing the poor thing in the name of lefty guitar players" or something like that IIRC.

With a Korean made Hamer cousin I had at the time too.

I am. So is Steve Morse, Robert Fripp and Paul Simon. It makes sense having the most dominant hand on the neck.
And they don't make left handed pianos or flutes.

My brother is left-handed but plays bass right-handed. (He is not on this forum, BTW.)

I am more right-handed than left-handed. This might explain why I play the ten string GRP skateboard in my avatar pic.

Herman Li of Dragonforce also learnt to play right-handed. I know him and his music gets a lot of ****, but it certainly hasn't hindered his technical ability...

I'm lefty and lefty all the way.... BUT I only play guitar left handed however my most dominant hand is the right one... Ambidextrous mofo!!!

But yeah, Michael Angelo Batio is a lefty who plays right... And left.

I am somewhat ambidextrous, but I write and throw with my right hand, so I guess if you had to put me in one or the other camp I'd say right-handed. I play guitar lefty, and I often regret not learning right-handed back in the day. Oh well.

I learned alot of the basics right handed from my uncle on his guitars but when I sat down with my first left handed guitar it felt like I was already playing for years....everything played alot smoother and my picking was much better.....

Now do you play completely flipped over or do you restring the guitar like Jimi did? Albert King just flipped the guitar over & due to this he had the most unique bends of anybody I've heard. Doyle Brammel plays upside down also & he is a smokin' good player so I don't really think it matters from a music point of view it really is how you approach the instrument!



You can clearly see in this video that he just flipped the guitar over!

I'm a (somewhat) lefty playing righty too.

I'm about 90% ambidextrous, but I do write and draw with my left hand and I learned to play right-handed, and I thank my dad every time I think about it for insisting that I do so.
