Default Low output bridge humbucker for metal?

Will it work in a Les Paul? Something like a '59, Alnico II pro, Pearly Gates...

I just prefer the clean sounds on the website to, let's say a Distortion or Custom.

Yea, it will work if you have a high-gain amp. High-output pickups help push an amp into breaking up territory. If you have an amp with enough gain, adding high-output pickups can actually muddy the tone. Everybody has different methods to achieve their tone, but I actually like PAF-ish pickups with a high-gain amp. It allows the tone to be cleaned up easier and offers superb clarity under gain.

Yeah, I have a Marshall JCM900 modded with maximum gain, so that's not a problem.

Nothing wrong with using high output pickups with high gain amps. They help you get into really high gain territory without having to crank the gain up as high as you would with low output pickups. By using comparatively lower amp-gain levels, you should (theoretically) get a clearer more impactful sound rather than an overly-saturated muddy mess.

The Pearly Gates works well in the bridge for high gain. The neck model is also good, but I'm starting to prefer the 59 in the neck.

are you getting clean tones by using the hum in full series and just trying to dial in a clean tone on that high gain amp? or are you splitting the coils or putting them in parallel? even when split, I've seen the DD still be harsh but the Custom should clean up well when split/parallel.

and keep in mind that you're looking at some pups with ceramic mags and looking to throw in primarily A2s. but of the ones you've mentioned, I'd suggest the A2P... and consider splitting them for clean tones, if you aren't already doing it.

Get a Lace Alumitone. Its super low output-ish.

I've used an Alnico II Pro bridge into a Mesa/Boogie Triaxis. Though it sounded good, it was not crisp enough for me doing higher gain stuff.

I now use a Duncan Distortion and have the gain backed off a bit on the Triaxis.

Low output pups can work for metal, but in my experience, you'd need a really crisp amp & speakers to compensate.

If it's metal, how often are you playing cleans? Anyway, a decent clean sound can be had even with a Distortion. Mikael Akerfeldt used Full Shreds for a long time and got great clean tones with them.

I prefer to use humbuckers in series. That's the sound I like. It's not that I can't get a clean sound out of a a high output pickup, that's not a problem at all. I just want the best clean sound and great overdriven sound too

Custom with A8. I would not consider it low output but it is not as high output as the DD or even the regular custom. Sounds very sweet clean, crunch or high gain. that pickup can do anything
