Sitting at the DMV.

Sitting at the DMV.

it's not so bad if you live in the middle of nowhere. i remember where i used to live, when i got married, i was totally dreading having to go to the SS office and the secretary of state to change my name on my SS card and driver's license. when i finally went, i got both done in less than half an hour. the local population was somewhere around 10K though.
that definitely wouldn't happen here.

They started staying open on Monday's this week, thought I'd be smart and hit it Tuesday, and I think no one knew they were open yesterday. I've been here for an hour and a half and just got a text that there's 64 people in front of me and my wait is 92 minutes, lol.

North side, a lot of people left, so I made it through, right at 5, muhahahahaha.

The last time I went I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Number was called before I even sat down. It took me longer to get there than the time I spent there.

Our DMV revamped a few years ago. They're much faster. Besides, you can do renewals online.

I'm taking a guess this is for a driving licence, right? How long does a US driving licence last out of curiosity?

I dream of a better world, where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned

4 years before renewal, but in some states you need a whole new one to change your address if you move. in MI i could just get a sticker with my new addy to put on the back, but not so in MN.

In La. a standard license is good for 4 years for the most part.

VA just revamped our licenses a couple years ago. Now they last 8 years, and every other renewal can be done online. The reason it's every other is because now they bring you in for a vision test and to make sure your picture doesn't need updating. We also have the wait times reported online. I have a DMV right here by work and I had to go get new plates for the truck. The wait time online said 1 minute and 30 seconds and no one here in the office believed it to be true. So I went and sure enough I walked in, got a number from the receptionist lady and within seconds they called it. I advise everyone now to check the website first before going.

We've been doing the vision test longer than I've had a license.
The online renewal bounced it to every other renewal. It used to be every renewal.

They have contracted most of them out in the last few years around here, and it's been much better. I usually shoot for the middle of the month to avoid all the procrastinators at the end of the month scrambling to get their plates renewed. And then I try to get there from 1-3PM to avoid the lunch rush and people leaving work early. One employee told me about half the people they see during the day don't have the correct paperwork which shocked me. They list everything online you need to renew your plates.

I haven't renewed a plate on site in over a decade.

Yeah, this was for DL, we renew every six years. Kansas tests for vision too, last time I barely passed without my glasses, I remember they gave me a hard time and I told them something was wrong with their test. I passed pretty easily without my glasses this time.
I'll make the wife go do the tag renewals, they're up this month too, hahaha.
