I really liked I & II, but the newer stuff doesn't do it for me.
NVM, got it to work, just took forever. I really don't like this.

Thanks for the link, dude. I feel like this is a band I should be into and just never got around to seeking out.

I heard the single on Facebook a few weeks ago.
I haven't had time to check out the rest of the album yet, but the single struck me as really... commercial? I didn't hear much of their crunchy proggyness that really drew me to the last two records and I'm really hoping that's not indicative of the whole album.
The single sounded like Baroness trying to do their own version of Mastodon's The Hunter, which amounts pretty much to a bunch of bands just trying to be Torche.
And only Torche can pull off Torche.

I listened to the whole thing today.
I don't care that it's not as heavy. This is not a pass for a more commercial sound. This is a serious and expertly-crafted work of inspiration.
Only time with tell how this sits among the band's other work, but for me right now, maybe Album of the Year.

I'm really enjoying this.
Also reminding myself(whilst reading the assorted commentary) how awesome it is to just enjoy music I like outside the space occupied by self-entitled blowhards over-analyzing and crushing the joy of every little aspect of existence.

About halfway through - I really like what I've heard so far. I've never been a huge fan necessarily but I enjoy them from time to time. Proggish stuff can bore me at times, but Baroness will occasionally throw in a a catchy, almost punk-like hook that pulls me back in.

I've never even heard of these guys, much less even heard them. I'm about 22 minutes in, and I like it.

I dunno, still doesn't do anything for me.
I didn't know Mastodon was trying to be Torche now, that's funny. I still haven't listened to The Hunter, and last time I listened to Torche they didn't even sound like Torche anymore.
I know, I sound like "that guy" that says "I like their old stuff better" about everyone, but I'm not like that about everything, I promise. I just LOVED Baroness I & II, and Mastodon's Remission, and the S/T Torche, and I don't get why if I loved that why I should still love what they're doing now when it doesn't even sound remotely like the same bands.
I'm not against progress, I know people pile on Converge, but I think they get better every record.
For every Converge there's a Cave In, and a Poison the Well, and an 18Visions.
It's cool, I guess, just not my thing.
Converge can do no wrong... Cave In is weird. I love everything theyve done, but can never understand where the transitions came from. I actually think Poison The Well gets better with every record. 18 Visions ehhhhh to silly.
Im diggin the new Baroness.... different, but still really good i think.

I don't know what Cave In was doing, but I like what they've got going on now, a lot, White Silence is awesome.
I liked Tropic Rot, but I was never really into them though, so yeah. Same with 18V, I've got some early 18V stuff and I remember kinda liking it.......
You see my point though. When a band takes on a relatively drastic change of direction they can, and usually do, lose some fans of their previous work. Fortunately for the bands, it usually pays off with new fans.

That's fair. For me, it's OK when bands change, as long as they change to something I still like. That's a dicey proposition with some bands, though.
I think Torche peaked on Meanderthal and never was grabbed much by Songs For Singles, but I think their newest record is a return to form. For my money, Torche is a much more enjoyable band than their predecessor Floor.
Mastodon probably peaked with Blood Mountain, and I prefer that record and the two preceding it than either of the albums released after.
Converge is a band I've tried to get into again and again, but have had to accept the fact that they just flat out bore the piss out of me.

Damn, I enjoy Blood Mountain well and good but nothing comes close to Crack The Skye for me. Like...even remotely.
Though I too could never get into Converge. They receive constant praise, but I just don't see it. I've seen them live as well. Didn't do anything for me. Though they do remain the most polite band I've ever seen perform.

Holy sh!t, I love this album
Saw that it was on Spotify so I gave it a listen

Converge boring?!
*head explodes*
No really, I've heard them called "too abrasive", but I've never heard "boring" before. I guess it's a hardcore thing, crowd participation is a huge part of the live experience, if the crowd isn't their crowd maybe they lose something, I don't know. I haven't seen them since Jane Doe era, but that show was one of the best shows I've ever been to, ever.
Hardcore shows aren't necessarily about the most perfect performance, it's more about energy, some of that comes from the audience, bands feed off of the crowd more, that usually comes across better in small venues too. I think seeing them in their element might be a lot different than what you guys saw, I dunno. I say try to catch them when they play some little bar or something (they still do), see what you think about them then.
Funny you guys think they're nice, Jake is a notorious dick, haha.

Converge is a band you see WITHOUT stage barriers ... saw them on that same tour with the bronx, and Mastodon. Definitely less energy with the barriers up. I usually see them every year, and they are still IMO one of the best live hardcore bands... next to Bane haha
Anywho... been listening to this new Baroness a lot and im really digging it![]()
