APS-2 and SSL-6
I'm currently considering to buy an APS-2 for neck and middle and I want to combine it with an SSL-6 in the bridge position. Does anyone has this combination already an can tell me if it sounds good?

Yes I do have basically the same setup in one of my strats...The APS-2s are good if you have a bright strat that needs a bit of highend taming,as they are A2 pole...If you want classic strat style chime and quack in the highs,I still recommend the SSL1s with their A5 poles...
The SSL5/6 is a great bridge pickup..Less highs,but still chimey,more mids,more output,beefier lows...Not a true single coil wind,but a nice bridge pickup if you need more balls there...I'm told and have read that David Gilmour uses this pickup and his tone overall is one of my favs!
Another great bridge pickup is the Twangbanger and it too is A2 poles...My favorite middle and neck single coils to date,are the Antiquity Surfers!

Thank you and what if I would choose an Antiquity Surfer for the neck position? Would the other pu's still fit in that configuration?
Also, considering that the Surfer is a vintage pu with staggered pole pieces should I also pick the staggered versions of the other pickups?

Ant. surfers for neck and middle used to be a forum mainstay actually. Guys would go with APS neck and middle and then a Texas Hot Custom in the bridge. Thing is the Texas Hots have different polarity so you'd have to wire them backwards. For what you want everything should be fine.
As to stagger or not.....stagger makes for a more "classic" sound. Meaning a strummed chord is, essentially, EQed the way Leo Fender EQed it. Round bottom, bright top, and subdued mids. With the APS having no stagger you really hear the mids in a strummed chord.

Let's say I put an Antiquity surfer in the neck and an APS-2 in the middle position. Now if I wire them together in the "2" position would it sound bad or would the sound be fine? I'm asking this since the Antiquity is staggered and the APS is not. Or am I completely wrong? :POriginally Posted by Luke Duke

Ants are staggered, and any SD single coil with a -2 is flat poles.
Regardless what you do your guitar isn't going to just explode violently. Go with what your gut tells you. If you have a flatter than 10" radius (IMO) a flat pole pickup might be best. Leo came up with the original staggers because he used a 5.27" radius.
