    Default Chorus & Compressor

Tone Freaks . . . gimme some direction please !

X-Mass is on its way (i get them early, to avoid any sad faces), and i want to get my brother either a Chorus 0r Compressor. (not both)
    Max price is $150.00 new.

What chorus do you recommend ?

Compressors i know NUFFING about, as i do not use 'em !

He tells me he use a comp for it's sustain-quality, not really to compress the tone, or something like that. What ever...it is for him, not me !

So what is there in the "up-to-$150.00" USD compressor-world ?

He has an AC 15, Les Paul Std. & Tele with dual P90s.

    Thanx Guys

TC Corona for the $$$ is really hard to beat!

Same can be said for the Barber Tone Press Compressor.

Does he have any use for a delay in the same box? I love the Visual Sound H2O. Unfortunately, new it's $190.

Here's a link anyway. It's like two presents in one.

The suggestion of Hoss is very good - I've had the Tone Press and still have the Corona, very satisfied.

My fav compressor pedals are the ones that are NOT transparent...the ones that are NOT perfect and clean...I like comps with character and my 2 favs are the old Dyna Comp and the Armstrong Orange Squeezer...

Best bets for those today are the 76 script reissue Dyna Comp at $175 and the Hartman Compressor is a handmade close of the Orange Squeezer and it runs $135. Also worth a mention is the EH Soul Preacher...kool tone but a lot of noise.

For chorus pedals...I'd look at a Boss CE-2, those often break $150 but just as often go for less than $150. Other favs are the Voodoo Lab chorus, they can also be had for less than $150, the 80's Ibanez SC-10 is a cool chorus too but does have a very 80's sound to it, Small Clones are great too...go for the older analog version if you go that way with it, also one I have not tried but dig clips of is the Malekko which is $140 new and uses cool mojo tastic NOS chips!

Might I suggest something special, something custom? Try a Monte Allums modded Boss CS-3

And, for the Chorus fan who has everything, get them everything in one box: Digitech CF-7 Chorus Factory. 7 classic chorus tones and more adjustable than any of the originals.

Shrewd Ebay buyer might be able to get both for less than $150...

the only chorus i like is the H2O. . .most choruses sound seasick or wishywashy. I hate those watery, weepy things. .

the H2O sounds clear and clean. the pedal also includes an echo as an option. you can run both together, which is kind of cool.

You can get just the chorus from the H20 on the cheap.

This is true, but the delay is such a great match to it, it would be a shame to miss out on that part of it.

Ive had a love hate relationship with choruses since the 80s, when i saw a star licks video and Brian May from queen used one. My fave is the CE-2, but a CE-3 can be modded to sound just as good and its in stereo! Trouble with all choruses ive tried is this: Choruses are fun and addictive, lush and swirly...until you record them and listen back and realize that you have been making muzak.
