If you are resigned to working on the top nut anyway, why not simply replace it with a new one made from better materials?

    Simples!
this is the thing. It's like my telecaster again, The guitar didn't cost an awful lot but anything that needs sorting out can be sorted. I have found a left handed graphite nut that will fit the Razer for less than £5 on Ebay. Reputable dealer and products as I have used him before. bargain, no?

Lefty, there is a guy near Kettering called Dave Farmiloe. Take it to him and get him to sort it out it'll save you a lot of faffing about and he won't fleece you. his "day job" if you like, is working for Fender in the UK and he's the most talented luthier I know. We trained at the same place and time and he's better than me, and I'm quite good...

PM me and I'll send you his number.

I'll PM you soon but for what it's worth mate I can easily get the old one out and stick the new one in any tweaking and my dad's tutor can sort it out since he lives a mile from our house. (plus he has all the tools for the job! lol)

Well best of luck with that then; some things are best left to the skilled professionals but, as my grandmother used to say, you can't put an old head on young shoulders...

That sounds like something my grandmother (from England) would have said.
