Default User Group Pickup Specs Poll #3... Third Time's the Charm!

OK... It's been a long day for me, but here it goes again. As before, Pole piece style. No specifics, "Screw" could be slot, hex etc, "Blade" can be thick, thin, magnet, not magnet etc...

    Vote please!

    The story so far:

    Poll 1: Humbucker Style
Poll 2: Dual Coil, Neck position

Voted dual blades, but 1 blade 1 screw or 1 blade 1 axis poles would be cool as well. That was a tough choice!

I voted dual screws, but a 1/2 blade is intriguing. I think having a set of screws for adjustability is a good idea if this becomes a hybrid that might be a dual purpose pickup like we were discussing in the other thread.

Agreed. I don't know why it hasn't come up sooner. The CS already does something that's like it, but it's a blade and a single coil. Blade with hex poles would be killer me thinks. A2 Blade like the Diablo, Maybe 6/7k with a coil from the Demon wound a little hotter. Use some thinner wire so it's not super hot, but would work well in the bridge or neck. Sounds like a winner to me!

Parallel Axis bridge coil and a blade neck coil. The note definition and tracking should be exceptional with that combination.

    That's what I voted for.

If something like this wins, I may have put my Crazy 8 back into service...

    Suggestion:

Can you put all the specs that have been decided on in the first post of each poll? That way I can contemplate before I vote.

I am having a really hard time choosing. I may just have to pass on voting for this one, but I am still going to keep up with what happens.

My skepticism comes from I'm not sure how well it works to pick random parts and specs and throw them together then hope that it sounds good. In my mind the goal should be established first. Decide what we want out of the pickup then find the best way to achieve that. This way its kind of like just shotgunning specs together while its kinda fun to go oooh what if we did this oooh what if we did that in the end how it winds up will be a complete surprise. It might suck major donkey rocks. If we want a neck pickup what sort of neck pickup are we after? Thats my thoughts.

    +1

But, whatever. I'm just gonna sit back, vote where it makes sense, and see what happens.

I've voted the most versatile of combos: two screw coils arrangement.

I wouldn't mind one screw and one PATB, but... I'm just not sure how it'll work out, as the magnetic field structure and the harmonic reading of both coils are so different. And if you also wanns throw coil mismatch to the equation, it just gets mind-boggling.

This is one of those things yoiu just have to do it and test it yourself; as at least for me, it got too difficult to even imagine the outcome of something similar.

The combo that's winning by now (PATB+Blade) is the one that by far makes less sense to me of all possibilities, plus is the fugliest to be found.

Last but not least: IME, nothing really great ever came from "design-by-comitee" actions. You design a p'up to fulfill a certain task or to fill a sonic void in a line-up... anyway, what do I know, huh...?

Now that it's getting more defined, it's time to look at the poll results first and then vote. You may end up voting for whatever is coming in second.

I agree. Why are people voting for it? Just because they've never seen it before and they are curious?

I have a suspicion that all those that voted that combo are shredders and/or brootalz...

So what is this pickup suppose to sound like? By simply stating 22 or 24th fret neck bucker is a broad description.
