I went for a blade with screws - when I say screws though, I'm thinking hex's - magnet choice could be interesting.

It's supposed to sound good. It's a Seymour Duncan. Duh.

Thats what iam saying.. What is the goal... Obviously we wont satisfy everyone. But I think a general consensus as to a pickup that a large group would like to purchase can be achieved.

I am out. This is starting to feel like choices are made for the sake of being different, not to meet a tone objective like the original one was

You can always change the screws though.

The Parallel Axis / Blade may look interesting, but it won't be that big of a seller in the long run. (I say that as someone that has owned a PATB-2 and have made plenty of hybrids, with blades and screws and slugs all interchanged. Looks don't matter to me.)

Like I said in the other version of this thread, if we got one blade and one screws would the blade be like the Dimebucker or like an X2N?

Went with two coil of screws. Seems that it would be very adjustable. Could use hex or filsters, long or short.

I'm hoping for a neck pickup that's hotter, but still articulate, warm & thick, but not tubby, has decent pick attack, strong mids, good harmonics, and a nice drive for heavy riffage. References are Breed neck/Liquifire/Fred and my own 490R/Demon hybrids.

I'm pretty sure, done right, it would make a great bridge pickup where there's a hole in the Duncan line too.

WTF @ PA/Blade? No adjustibility in a neck pickup is probably a bad idea, in my opinion.

I could maybe go for a blade and screw combo, but a blade/parallel axis seems different for the sake of different.

I wouldn't mind one screw and one PATB, but... I'm just not sure how it'll work out, as the magnetic field structure and the harmonic reading of both coils are so different. And if you also wanns throw coil mismatch to the equation, it just gets mind-boggling.

This is one of those things yoiu just have to do it and test it yourself; as at least for me, it got too difficult to even imagine the outcome of something similar.

The combo that's winning by now (PATB+Blade) is the one that by far makes less sense to me of all possibilities, plus is the fugliest to be found.

Last but not least: IME, nothing really great ever came from "design-by-comitee" actions. You design a p'up to fulfill a certain task or to fill a sonic void in a line-up... anyway, what do I know, huh...?

Agreed. I'm gonna go ahead and say that I no longer like this poll. It's very fun to vote and see the end result, but it's far too impractical. The idea of a neck humbucker is simple enough, but going any further would be disastrous.

Why can't we get together and vote on several "tonal vibes". That would be a much better idea with a much better result.

How about a 12-screw with standard screw type, but much larger screws?
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

hell yeah to all the designs with one PA coil. such a great idea.

Although I voted the other coil with screws so you can have at least some adjustment if needed.

I didn't even read the comments, but when I saw "1 coil Parallel Axis, 1 coil Blade", I voted!

Glad to see i'm not the only freak that would take that design to bed with me

HOWEVER: I'm concerned that the shape of the blade coil bobbin will look horrid against the more squared-off shape of the Parallel Axis bobbin...and there's ZERO adjustability in a design like that! Also, where do you find a bridge pickup to match the one-off looks?

I chose two coils parallel axis but I would be fairly happy with one blade / one P-Axis coils or two screw coils.

    Right on!

No. Identical to standard humbucker screws, just larger. I've got some that I plan to experiment with. MWA-HA-HA....

And it would sound different, not just look different. At the very least, string-bend dropout would be reduced.

At least you stated what you want out of it, but is this the general concensus? Does everybody want a medium output humbucker that's versatile for shred and articulate cleans, or would some prefer something made for the blues, or a gain monster?

Also I liked the idea of blades like El Diablo, but for the bridge position where it would make sense, they tend to have different overtones and stronger attack, plus a consistent volume for bends. In the neck though, that just looks odd with no way to adjust for height.
