Most versatile guitar

Over the years i've noticed that guitars like Gibson Les Pauls have been used in all types of music. Ive heard it being used in:
- Heavy new style metal (Blessthefall - Bottomfeeder)
- Classic rock, Slash.
- Blues
- ect.

Is there other guitars you believe can do this as well ? (Meaning have a smooth clean sound, and as well as the ability to be used for heavy metal)

...have all stayed around for a reason. They're all extremely versatile guitars, and you need that to have commercial success with a guitar model over that many decades IMO. I think the Les Paul is by far the least versatile of those that I mentioned...but it's still a versatile guitar.

I own a strat, and have played teles. To me the new Les paul studio's seem pretty versatile: gorgeous clean, fat sound, handles high gain like crazy, both humbuckers are coil tappable.

To me the strat and tele, while being truly amazing and my favorites, cannot handle metal like the example ive provided at all, while a les paul can.

IMO a Strat even a normal SSS config is definitively more versatile and you can do a lot of mods on it. You can put Single coil sized humbuckers in it and push your amp. A HSS config is Very versatile. A LP is also of course versatile, but I would like lower output pups in them.

All solid body guitars will do. It's just the shape that makes one particular guitar suited for certain music.

Maybe, but it's a lot harder to twang on an LP; regardless whether you coil-tap the pickups or not, than on a Tele or even a Strat. Of course, I'm biased....

+1. Telecaster with humbuckers! Every damn thing I've ever wanted to play sounds right with my hh tele, surf, country, jazz, rock, metal. Of course coil splits come in handy for some of these styles. Yeah, you can split an LP, but still doesn't sound right for the twangy stuff.

I have thought of completely modding my strat, but to me it just seems like a better idea to get a fatter sounding guitar for metal and blues, and keep my strat for funk, nice clean sounds, classic rock.

TBH i dont like that tone the strat player has...black metal ?

Speaking of tele's with humbuckers, has anyone tried the Blacktop Telecasters by Fender ?? Opinions ?

Well, Jari Mäenpää of Wintersun uses standard Tokai tele with single coils.... it's not about the guitar, it's just how you play. I love single coils for really low drop tunings like G# & stuff

A strat with a hottish bridge pup, blender pot, and a no load is some serious versatility.

My set up is amazing. I like it. There are a few things I'd like to change about it but I like it right now.

well point is, i am 100% gonna be buying a guitar with an HH setup, so which guitar with and HH setup is the most versatile??
