The newer Schecter Balckjack SLS C-1 is offered either with Active Blackouts or a Passive combo of Full Shred / Jazz.
Is the passive combo more versatile ? Can it handle metal tones as well as Blackouts or close to as well ?

Why not full shred/full shred?
As i said, the Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 comes with an active and a passive option, the passive being Full shred / jazz..

I think the passive would be a little more versatile and the actives would be a little more brutal. Given the particular model. If you play a lot of extreme metal I would go blackouts. They are a lot more versatile than you would think. If you play mainly more rock and traditional metal I would go full shred.
That said..... You can't really go wrong given the choice
Thanks for the help, i would most likely be using this guitar as a more 'brutal' metal guitar (disturbed, avenged sevenfold, memphis may fire, other slightly drop tuned bands) and metallica, along other old metal. The blackouts seem like the clear choice atm, i have my strat for other music styles.

I have a Full Shred in one of my Ibanez- covers metal tones with ease.

Blackouts will probably be the choice for me

If distortion is your thing, Blackouts are great. I you think you need some good cleans going, the Full Shred would fare better. Just my opinion- I own both pickups.
