There is truth to this but you can't deny access to firearms up's the odds of this happening. Other countries in the world that have a ban on firearms do not suffer these incidents nearly as much as we do. It's much harder to plan a bomb attack or some other form of mayhem than to pick up a hand gun.

Allow everyone to carry -

Other countries in the world that have allowed their governments to dictate their lives have much more to worry about statistically. They believe government will save them and readily allow another human being to make decisions for them. A few troublesome spots come to mind.

NAZI Germany
East Germany
Soviet Union
Cambodia
U.S. - Blacks were not allowed to have firearms and paid a heavy price for it.

The 2nd Amendment was ratified in a far different time than one in which we live and that our fore fathers could have never envisioned. I personally think it has no merit today. That said we are way beyond changing the the laws because there are too many guns in circulation so it's futile at this point to even discuss it.

A few of the arguments for carrying a firearm are:
-Preventative: "If everyone is armed, the criminal will think twice knowing he will be met with armed opposition."
-Defense: "Carrying a gun allows me to defend myself should I be attacked."

In Colorado, it is lawful to carry a concealed handgun with a permit (ok to carry unconcealed without permit). A gunman opened fire in a crowded theatre. Chances are, at least a FEW individuals in that theatre were carrying. No one took out the gunman (and no reports even state that anyone returned fire) NOR did the possibility that the citizens inside could be armed act as a deterrent for this lunatic.

Condolences to everyone effected by this nightmare...including the shooter's parents.

The hardest part to grasp is how a seemingly bright med student, whom nobody would ever expect, being a student of neuroscience, would do such a thing.
It's simply an unavoidable isolated incident. Who would suspect a guy like him to do something this senseless?

There are over 2.5 million defensive uses of firearms in the U.S. alone. Yes in this particular scenario in Colorado it may not have been that easy or even possible for an armed citizen to stop the attack with tear gas in the room. But seriously have you never been to a movie before? It's extremely easy to see the front of the theater near the emergency exits due to the light reflecting off of the screen. If someon is standing there shooting, it's not that hard to figure out who the shooter is and where they are located.
