    Default Pups for WALNUT

I have a one piece neck through walnut guitar with an ebony fretboard. It has a scale length of 25". It's a carvin dc127. It's a great playing guitar but it could use better pups than the stock carvins. Any ideas? I play rock and everything shred. Need something with great cleans as well.

Go to the first page of the Seymour Duncan FAQ's, where pickups for a bright guitar such as Maple or Walnut are discussed.

A overwound A2 magnet pup has been suggested, IIRC. Degaussing also takes the edge off the high mids and/or treble I think they said.

From what I understand a lot of that spikey icepick can be in the high mids. Another way other people go about it from what I gather, is to get a very bass and low mid heavey pickup with rolled back treble I think.

I have been wanting to try the Custom with the A8 magnet. Thats supposed to not be harsh, but I don't know how it would work in Walnut.

I really think a Duncan Custom Shop pickup would save you a lot of time and trouble in the longrun, based on my expeience with my Walnut Strat. Ive been through 1/2 dozen pickups in that thing with no luck whtasover, and that will be my next recourse.

I think It was GWIF who said Maple /Walnut will always be bright, no matter what. Thats probably true. I actually got noticeable positive results with a Maple guitar using a very B-M-T balanced pickup, and doing heavy EQ'ing at the amp; don't know the how's or why's.

this. I have had good luck with ceramic pickups in my bright super shredders. I say buy a jb and a custom and some magnets and go nuts. A patb-1,3 would also be a great choice
