Default Help : How to swap magnets

I know there must be a post about this specifically but I can't seem to find it.

So how do I change out the magnets (my first time).

    C5 to C8

    JB to JB unoriented 5
    Exposed coils no covers

Already have the magnets just a walk through on what/how to do it.

    Thanks & peace

loosen the 4 screws on the base plate. Take a screwdriver and push the mag half out. Match the polarity of the mags. Take old one out. New one in. Screw back together. Tape. Hair dryer for 10 seconds (optional)

I don't remove the tape myself. If you can push up the tape with something like a flathead screwdriver (very carefully) you'll see that one side is relatively open and the other side has wires running across it.

You need to push from the wire side out to the open side. I can usually just use the flathead screwdriver and push. Sometimes the magnet will be stuck really good to the baseplate so you need to try and nudge it around to loosen it up. The 4 baseplate screws need to be loosened (but not completely removed) before you try and push out the magnet.

Pardon my lack of magnet experience, but how do you match the polarity of the mags when doing a mag swap?

Me personally... I make sure the tops and fronts attract and the sides repel. Somebody chime in?

yep. check to see what repels and attracts.

most mags should have some type of a marking in sharpie along the edge of the 'north' end... which can also help you determine what is what.

Apply heat (hair dryer) on the back for about 15 seconds before pulling the magnet out,
so that the wax melts, it should EASILY come out.

You shouldn't need to push hard at all. Don't forget to tighten the screws in the back after placing the new magnet in.
And I also like to heat the entire pickup just a bit with the hair dryer after I've done everywthing else, the glue in the tape reheats so you can make things tight again.

Don't forget to mark your magnet orientation and magnet type with a Sharpie. Once the magnets start stacking up on your desk, you won't be able to figure out which kind of alnico each one is.

With magnet polarity can't you just place the magnet over the pickup as is and if it pushes away it's alined like magnet already in the pickup and if it pulls together it's the opposite?
