    Default Moved house again!

I got posted to a new job back in February, but due to my daughters' education we kept the married quarter at my previous unit.

I lived in the Sergeants Mess during the week, and spent weekends back at home with the family. As you can imagine it caused a little bit of stress living separate lives, but I'm glad to say we have completed the move to our new married quarter.

I have had 9 postings over the years, and this will be our 14th house since 1995!

Many of the people I have known from military families feel out of sorts if they DO NOT move house every three years or so.

Yeah, we begin to get that feeling after a couple of years in one place.

Generally it's 3 years per posting, officers tend to do 2 years. However, there are always situations where that can change. Officially my last job lasted 2 years 3 months as the unit I was working on was closing. I hope to stay here for 3 years, and maybe beyond that if possible.

It doesn't get any easier, although we should be really good at moving by now!

Don't think I ever saw any of the more town based places. I was always more rural.

I've had quite a mix with my postings. Henlow is quite a rural place, and I was at Boulmer, Northumberland for 3 years. But I've also had MoD Main Building in London as well as this posting and a tour each in Cyprus and Gibraltar.

I only managed Benson, Aldergrove, St. Mawgan and Aldergrove again. Other than that it was the usual basic/trade training places, Swinderby & Cosford.

Pros and cons really Matt. The kids have been great, although for the elder 2 this move has been harder for them. They do adapt really well and they're certainly not backwards in coming forwards! It is nice to move to a new area and experience living in different parts of the country/world. It never feels so good come moving time, and we should be experts at it by now, but it's still a dreadful few days packing everything up, preparing to hand the quarter back, and unpacking (and trying to fit your stuff in a new house) at the other end.

The rest of my family have remained in Plymouth their entire lives, and I'm certainly glad that I moved away to see a little more of what's out there, and think that my girls have benefitted from it too.

We've got really lucky this with the timing this posting. All of my girls would be stepping up to the next level in their schooling. My eldest will be starting A-Levels, no.2 is starting her GCSE's, no.3 is starting Secondary School, and no.4 Junior School.

I'd love to see a lot of those places. My single week in London was a blast back around 2001. I never got to see the countryside. One day i'd love to get back and have a pint with you guys.

    Moved house again!
Wouldn't it have been easier to live in a different house that's already in the desired location?

Give me a shout if you're ever over here again Scott!

Yeah, but it saves having to pack everything in boxes!

The trouble with being in the forces is that you can never quite work out what the desired location might be, but it's rarely too close to where they send you.
