Let's stay positive people, this could still end up the most badass thing ever.
I like your idea there, Mr. Fingers, that would maybe keep the haters in the game.
Blue Rare (So vintage and sweet your grandmother would love it.)
Rare (Vintage, like a great old PAF)
Medium Rare (Vintage but with a kickand some attitude)
Medium (Moderate and tasty, voiced for versatility)
Medium Well (Moderate but mixes well with a really hot bridge)
Well Done (High output, modern voice)
Burn it! (Over the top power, modern voice

I mean heck I'd consider the pup if it went production or became the new Forum pup in it's lead chip eating glory. The Idea is great, great enough that i'd dump an ugly pup in my guitar (The P-rails are ugly)
I just got but hurt that he is basically making a idealized Air Norton that i've been suggesting SD make via the forum.
Ignore my grumpiness and we appreciate you doing it bro.

This poll is making me hungry!
It's also a very smart idea to ask questions like this.

What about the idea I mentioned back at Poll#2, with the hybrid design where the hotter of the 2 coils has a tap that takes it down to lower than the other coil? Then, the 1 pickup could cover 2 of the ranges in this poll...like medium-well and medium-rare. Is that just more complexity than most people want to deal with?

I picked rare like a PAF...guess that was the wrong answer...
"Time flies like arrows, and fruit flies like bananas."

I'm down with this. I'd actually go with having both coils tapped. Going with the steak metaphor, keep the pickup at medium well, and use a 3 way on/on/on mini toggle and vary it all the way down to medium rare.
I've also got another idea. Since it's a blade/axis hybrid and there's been a lot of talk of triple shot rings and coil switching abilities, why not just go with the a Prail template, but have the screws be axis poles. It makes sense on many levels.
Leave the logo off so people can orientate it however they want. There's great potential for having a good single coil and P90 tone for those guys that got left out in the first polls, but make it secondary to the humbucker tone. 2 different options for bucker tones with series and parallel. Coil tap-able on both sides for lowering the output to different levels, but make the overall wind medium hot so it can be used in both positions and still fit in well tonally with the taps.
Besides the tone shaping possibilities.....The platform has already been established. It won't be nearly as butt ugly as what we were initially driving for. There's more color options available than just black. Mismatched black at that. I'm pretty sure you can slip a slick face plastic cover like the blackouts over these if you don't like the look. Something like this just sounds more doable. Call it the PArail or PAPrail...something like that. That wide/vague of description makes it sound like a jack of all trades pickup, but you can still put a lot of focus into it.
FWIW though, I'm still kind of hoping for an Diablo style blade and an Axis coil. Then I can buy 2 and rebuild them into the dual blade Diablo style pickup that I originally wanted and still have an Axis pickup leftover! That's just what I want though. The Prail style package would definitely suit more people and would probably be a lot less work/cost less to build.

I voted medium. I'd really like to see something around 10-12k output

Love the idea of the versatility of tapping the coils. Not so crazy about the P-Rail look idea. I don't see how this would be cheaper, since SD will need to change the tooling for the bobbin/top to accommodate the axis poles instead of the screws. Whereas they already have bobbins for the axis and blade coils.
It's too bad the axis bobbins aren't more rounded to fit under a cover, as you mentioned in another post. I think that would not only work well here, but fix the problem of the axis sales not doing well because of the look. If you stuck a cover on them people wouldn't be distracted by the look.
I also agree with leaving the logo off, since if it's medium or medium-well there will be people putting this in the bridge. Or even just flipping it to change the tone, since, I'm pretty sure with this design, it'll make a difference.

Those are some interesting ideas, 9finger. The only thing that concerns me is that I'd like to be able to easily swap magnets. Didn't Frank say that it's a bit tricky w/P-Rails? I haven't mag-swapped my P-Rails, so I don't know from experience.
I'll just be happy to have 1 coil tap. Like many here, I was out-voted on all previous polls. However, if this pickup has the ability to dramatically change character w/the dual hybrid idea, I'll pony up.

So even the regular spaced PA won't fit under a cover? Shucks.

I didn't put a great deal of thought into those ideas guys. The idea popped and I rolled with it before my ADD kicked in and I lost my train of thought. It may or may not be cheaper to do a Prail type package. My guess would be which kind of rail is used. The Dimebucker styel steel rails will take some engineering. They don't mount to a base plate like the regular coils. They're mounted in a surround.
I also don't know on mag swaps. Never had a Prail, so I've never tried swapping a mag in them lol.

I don't know if they will or they won't bro. Never tried it. The bobbins on them are a little bit wider and squared off though.
I didn't say anything about them ordering/designing a cover to fit this. My suggestion was the blackouts style plastic cover IF they would fit. I'm sure they already have plenty of those on hand and since they're plastic, they'd just slip over the top of the pickup. No soldering or extra hand work required. I'm not even 100% sure that type of cover would slip over a Prail. I've never owned a Prail.

Hmmm, yeah, I know they're squared off, but I don't see that preventing a cover from fitting... Might be something to try at home later. Anyone have a reg spaced PA pickup? Original neck maybe?
I'm curious, might get more buyers with a metal no-hole cover or the plastic BO cover as options.
I went medium, but medium well would also be fine. I think this actually might end up being a really cool pickup.![]()
