My new PVX guitar kit

Got this just before the weekend. Put a lot of work into the sanding (it was pretty well sanded already) and into the staining and I've come up with a pretty good looking burst.

This top was picked as a 'light' amount of flame.
You can see the tenon extend all the way through the body to the bridge - once the neck is glued in (waiting on the titebond from Stewmac) I'll stain the tenon too.

I've discovered blue masking tape isn't perfect for keeping dye from bleeding under lines you want to keep razor sharp. You'd have to have some closeups to see, but the faux-binding edge is a tad ragged.

The 'vintage red mahogany' which was supposed to be around the adge has already become '59 les paul un-burst....oh well, not a bad effect in itself but not quite what I was shooting for.

You might be able to bleach the faux binding part clean. A while ago i read up on bleaching to remove stain, and when i went to get the right stuff for the job, i found i could only get it in a large quantity, but the guy in the store told me that it was basically the same chemicals as Napi-San, which you can buy in the laundry section at most supermarkets.

I bought some and used it, and it worked reasonably well. It may not work so well on end-grain, but if you're careful, it might be worth a try. For such a small area, i'd mask it up and use the NapiSan almost straight, maybe just on a slightly damp cloth or with a bit of spit. Start somewhere that's not very noticeable and see how it goes.

I tried with sandpaper and got a lot of the worst parts off.

Like yours, I seem to doing the clearcoating in the cold.....luckily I'm doing it with rattlecan nitro which is easy to warm up in water before spraying

Second, did they do the holes for the bridge? Last time I checked, they weren't quite ready for doing that. It's been the only thing stopping me from buying one.

Well, it was your thread originally IIRC that got me onto PVX in the first place.

They did the bridge holes, although I thought they were doing them at the time of that original thread too judging by Paul's posts....that was one of my main concerns with the kit.

They had a selection of bridge types they can drill for, but I went for the tune-o-matic style as that is what I'm most comfortable with. I specced a tone-pros set, which Paul can also supply at very good prices.

Wood seems quite good quality, but its no 1 piece back type stuff here...but at the price you can hardly expect Gibson Custom Shop sized wood.

I also like the 3-piece neck and volute....reminds me of a Norlin Deluxe (apart from the weight).

You're probably right. I'm absent minded to begin with and I have horrible insomnia. I'm on 3rd day straight with no sleep. If I wasn't already working on 2 projects and nearly broke, I'd be ordering one of them straight away.

Actually I'm not that much of a fan of the custom line, apart from the c/59. I thought the regular custom was good in my Parker PM20 (ebony fretboard LP type guitar) until I stuck a PATB1+A8 in there....blew the C out of the water.
They seemed too dull and uninspiring.....a dry tone if thats the right word. The c/59 seems to give that wind back the sparkle that is lacking to my ears.
I've had every magnet known to man in there too (the C8 wasn't that great IMO either, and that was in an SG where a lot of people like it).

Fit seems to be pretty good. The tenon was huge....much longer in the singlecut than the double.

The rosewood looks really nice. Its very smooth, of a relatively even chocolate colour and has nice even grain pattern all along the length. Its also quite a thick cut too. I might be wrong, but it seems to be thicker than your standard LP or strat rosewood board.

Neck is a slight D shape. Probably the same overall size as a 59LP or C-shaped strat but with some beef in the shoulders. Seems like it should halp to offset the thin PRS type body
