I write, record, and perform live, music I have written (or collaborated with my band on)...We play no covers live...not even the cover we have recorded (a cover of Donovan's catch the wind, that sounds nothing like the original)...

Whats the point of being a musician, if you're just gonna play someone else's music? That's the same as watching porn...Sure its fun...But everyone would rather be getting their **** wet, than ******* off alone.

Write both music and lyrics. As far as lyrics are concerned, I've penned probably around 120 or so. Currently writing a concept album (well four albums actually - but one story), that I'd actually like to record. Used to record and gig, too many responsibilities take time away from those things these days. Occasionally posted stuff here.

Wouldn't mind leading a band again, but quite simply I'm not going to give it 100% as there are other people/activities that need my time. Doing the covers/bar band thing doesn't interest me either.

I record bits of things. I kind of come up with bits of ideas, but never anything that you'd call a complete song. I don't really share what I do, largely because I don't feel confident about my playing abilities. I've never gigged. I do listen to tips and clips now and then, and will comment to at least acknowledge I've taken the time to listen.

I write songs and gig my own songs (when i have a band i currently dont) but I seldom record. I dont mind being recorded live but the process to record in a studio I find tedious and uninspiring but thats just me.

I've written songs since I was about 16, in fact up until my early 20's, guitar playing was simply a vehicle for songwriting for me. It was only after I moved to Melbourne that I had to become more of a guitar player to get work in order to survive. Prior to that, I had written most of the songs for the original band I played in and toured with. The songwriting was rekindled after several years of playing in cover bands, when I co-founded an original band called The Truth, and wrote about half the material. With that band, I signed a publishing deal that returned a substantial part of my income for the next ten years. This song, a co-write with the lead singer, scored us a nomination for APRA Song of the Year in 1994, beaten out by Neil Finn's (Crowded House) "Distant Sun." It was a radio hit here, receiving high rotation airplay for a couple of months.

The biggest songwriting coup of my career came a few years later in 2000, when an artist I had just toured with chose one of my songs, "The Way", to put on his album entitled "33 1/3", which debuted at No.1 here. It was a song that had appeared on the first album by The Truth, and the artist, John Farnham, is one of the most successful Australian acts of all time. The royalties from this one album track equated to about half a year's income. It was a very good year.

In 2008, I released a solo instrumental album that I composed, produced and played on my lonesome. There's a link to it in my sig. I haven't done much writing in the past few years, which have been taken up with a lot of touring, but I still do some co-writing with various people. I'd like to think there are still some good songs yet to come.

There's a wonderful Icelandic film called 'Angels Of The Universe' that is largely centred on four guys in the local psychiatric ward. They all smoke cigarettes cotinuously and talk. One of them has a guitar, and he writes the Beatles songs and sends them back in time to the band via telepathy.

I wrote all of Frank Sinatra's material when i was a little kid. Not many people know that.

I write and record music at home for fun and for gigging purposes. The band I'm in now is in the writing/recording phase and rehearsing for gigs, once we have some material down and recorded I'll share.

I did back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. A little in the 90's, Not much since then. I throw down the occassional guitar line on tracks a mate of mine makes.

See 80's Demos link below. \/\/\/

Written and recorderd by myself. Played the guitars on them. Played Synth on the 4 track stuff.

I've written and recorded in the past, something akin to the SoCal pop/punk thing, but that was close to 12 years ago and I had a good guy to write lyrics. He might not have been that good of a singer but he was good with words. I don't even think my old soundclick account is still up.

That's a little depressing, at times. I know what I posted in that other place but man...now that I'm thinking about it, I miss it.

The ONE song we had that was any good:

anything you can't do on a Les Paul is because you haven't practiced enough or you don't rock hard enough.

Haven't written anything in some time now. Been in cover bands for the past few years so that's kept me busy. I got tired of playing dirty clubs on Tuesday nights for $20. Way too much of a grind in the original scene, and I'm not interested in it anymore.

    I co-wrote, recorded, and gigged this: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/colouredanimal

I've also posted a vid from the album in the T&C room, and I recently put up a cover of the Game of Thrones theme (though there was no writing involved in that).

We have written almost all the material required for a second album. Recording will probably start this winter.

Most of my recorded songs are from a ways back. I've always done a lot of writing but most of the projects ended early before things got to tape.

I've posted a few things to TnC but they are few and far between.

I never stop writing original stuff, in fact it's what I prefer to do when I sit down with a guitar. I'm not exactly a gifted lyricist though.

I write nearly everything but do not mind. I get to write lyrics, melodies, rhythm guitar, bass lines, and all the riffs. Only thing I really cannot write are the drum tracks/licks/whatever. I leave that to the drummer because they have an important part and can do it better than anyone else in the band. I also like to have the rest of the band put their input and creations into what I wrote, because the last thing I'd want is a solo act that is just me. It is a band for a reason and I'm only a member.

In the past I've written, recorded, and gigged original songs but didn't post any because I was on hiatus from the forum at the time. After that band broke up I started working on material again, but was sidelined for over a year due to injury. I just restarted playing this Spring and I'm looking forward to writing, recording, and gigging again. Key difference being that I'll be posting songs this time 'round.

I write a lot. From 12 second ringtones (a challenge to myself) to things that are several hours long (another challenge). There are a few things over in the Tips & Clips section.

Yes. Nobody else out there has quite the same entertainment requirements as I do. Brief description - somewhere between Zappa, Primus and Jeff Beck with a side order of Pink Floyd.

Some of the world's most successful songwriters are people of negligible technical ability and/or theoretical knowledge. (The example that I usually cite is Ray Davies of The Kinks.) Unencumbered by "rules" or "theory", they recognise no restrictions. This is when unpredictable things happen. Sometimes, the result is crud. Occasionally, something brilliant and entirely new emerges.

lc, it's worth commenting even if only to say "I like it."

I'm as guilty as most here of not cruising T&C enough.
