    Default NZ(hangbucker)D

I just received my first Zhangbucker!

It's a Woodbucker neck in zebra. 7.6k Alnico 3 and it now resides in my Epi Sheraton.

Firstly, it was neat to deal with David. It was one he had laying around, named "Ol Scratchy". He put new leads on it, converting it to 4con and here it is in my guitar 3 days after paying him. We agreed that it would be a good match for this guitar. I initially wanted to put a cover on it, against David's recommendation, but decided to leave it coverless. This is the first time I have EVER liked zebra.

The clarity, definition, and note separation are outstanding! When he says no mud, he really means no mud. Hard strums with overdrive stay clear. The Jazz it replaced often got muddy in the low mids and lows, the Zhang just won't!

It is sweet and flutey, organic and woody. The lows and low mids are soft and round like an A2. The high mids and highs are so sweet and warm and get sharper when you dig in. Less than an A5 or PG, but a little sharper than an A2.

I am extremely happy with this pickup. One of the best neck buckers I have ever heard, period.

A bridge companion (Slugbucker) is in the near future as well as a set of Pagey 2s

David, you do amazing work! Thanks again!

    Yaaaaaaaaay!
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

Happy NZD! Everything I am reading on Zhangbuckers has been great so far, I really need to give them a try.

So it was you that ended up with ol' scratchy.

I had decided to get that one and David said it had been snapped up already.

Hope it does wonderful things for you....bastard!

Luckily that photo doesn't show how it got its name...

You know, the scratches weren't nearly as bad as I was expecting. It just looks like it has seen some playing action. I'm loving it!

But, all's well that ends well. Sounds like scratchy got a good home.

It looks like I raked a screwdriver across the screw coil a couple times. It might also be since there's no matching heavy scratches on the slug coil that it's a sort of frankenbucker made with its original coil and a coil from another bucker. It was years ago and I'm getting forgetful. It was years ago and I'm getting for...

CountFunkula, I dig it too. The gold is classier but that zebra has major mojo.

David I'd be curious to know if you ever remember! It is an incredible pickup regardless. They are more scuffs than scratches, and that happens anyway so it's all good

I've had Dave's pickups in a couple of guitars and I must say, they are outstanding!

David does great work. His designs are clever and his product range fills a niche left mostly ignored by most pickup brands.

The sledge hammer of a Tele pickup he wound for me a while back is never leaving that guitar.

It's kinda like Anchor Steam (my go-to brew when I could drink), but just a bit heavier and also with a stronger bite on the finish.
