I just received my first Zhangbucker!
It's a Woodbucker neck in zebra. 7.6k Alnico 3 and it now resides in my Epi Sheraton.
Firstly, it was neat to deal with David. It was one he had laying around, named "Ol Scratchy". He put new leads on it, converting it to 4con and here it is in my guitar 3 days after paying him. We agreed that it would be a good match for this guitar. I initially wanted to put a cover on it, against David's recommendation, but decided to leave it coverless. This is the first time I have EVER liked zebra.
The clarity, definition, and note separation are outstanding! When he says no mud, he really means no mud. Hard strums with overdrive stay clear. The Jazz it replaced often got muddy in the low mids and lows, the Zhang just won't!
It is sweet and flutey, organic and woody. The lows and low mids are soft and round like an A2. The high mids and highs are so sweet and warm and get sharper when you dig in. Less than an A5 or PG, but a little sharper than an A2.
I am extremely happy with this pickup. One of the best neck buckers I have ever heard, period.
A bridge companion (Slugbucker) is in the near future as well as a set of Pagey 2s
David, you do amazing work! Thanks again!
