Default User Group Pickup Matched Set...guaging interest.

This has been brought up a few times in the polls and I've received a few PMs about it. Up until now there's not been a definitive answer on whether or not this is going to be offered as a matched Bridge & Neck set. I didn't want to step on Pinto's toes, but I went ahead and PM'd Evan about it.

Evan said he didn't want speak for MJ, as she's out all this week, but he also said he didn't think there would be a problem with it. So, if there's a good bit of interest in a matched set, I'll call MJ next week and get her take on it. If not, we'll just leave things as is and go from there.

    Can this be stickied? Please?

Maybe, depends entirely on what we can all agree on.

That's the funniest sh!t I've read since the polls have started!

Seriously though, In my opinion that will probably be ignored, if it's going to be set, we've already beat the neck pickup to death. I say we let MJ fly solo on the Bridge and let her shake her money maker on it.

I am not in NEED of a bridge pickup per se but I will agree with speed2dirt from the #6 poll, this pickup will look too weird paired with a normal pickup in the bridge.
Plus, I can think of a couple of bridge pickups I would be willing to part with in favor of a SD CS bridge

I am already in for probably two neck pus (depending on pricing) but I would probably be willing to go for a set or a set plus another neck pu.

And I agree, at the most, let's just re-run a quick poll saying whether we want it to be a medium hotness or Crazy 8 hot pickup (that simple, than non-specific) and be done with it. Pretty much every other poll can apply to the 2nd pickup on account of it being a set.

At best, let's go completely by MJ's gut ans just tell her, give us a bridge to pair with the neck pu. Period.

I'm in the same boat. I don't even really need a neck pickup right now, but I'm in just cuz it's completely off the wall and unique. If it's going to be a set, I do have a winter project planned that these might work in, but I've not even settled on a body style yet. Let alone ideal pickups. Building a guitar around the pickups is going at it ass backwards, but still doable.

I don't really see the point in really running any polls for a set. Everything we've decided for the neck has already set the tone for the bridge. Since it's going to be a medium output bridge, It's going to have to be a hot bridge by default. I'd just leave it at that and give MJ an open palette to run with.

So yeah, I think you and I are on the same page. Hard telling if everyone else will be on that page though lol!

I'm good with just the neck. But if it is made as a set, I'd prefer that this one becomes the bridge, and the neck is an underwound version. That as opposed to this one remaining the neck, and an overwound one becoming the bridge.

If both coils are tapped a little bit, say 10 or 15 percent, it can be a "convertible" pickup. Wire it tapped it for the neck, and leave it untapped for the bridge.

Also, the idea that neck and bridge pickups have to be different winds is a hangup, I think. In the old days, they used to just make a bin of pickups ahead of time and throw any two into a guitar.

I voted neck originally thinking I would pair it with my Crazy 8, but as I haven't been able to match the Crazy 8 with any of my guitars, this new one may end up a bridge pickup for me anyway.

I'm struggling enough with how I'm going to pay for one, let alone 2...

Mr. 9Finger, can you be in charge of figuring out the mate?

I don't think you'd be required to buy the set. You could buy any of the 3 with the Stratabro90. It wasn't all 3 or nothing. I can't imagine these would be any different.

I don't want to sound rude, but just because you can't afford both, doesn't mean everyone is in that boat. It's been brought up a few times by other people already. If it's an option, I don't see any reason not to explore it.

I didn't mean that at all! I was merely indicating that I'm likely going to use this pickup as a bridge pickup... and wouldn't be able to buy 2 anyway... I guess I left out the part where I was going to say that I wasn't voting on this one so as to not conflict with those that want a pair.

I'm all for the pair!!! Really!!!

I only bought one StraBro90 also. I actually wish I had bought a set. I might feel that way later, but finances often dictate behaviour...

If you don't want a neck pickup, I think the pickup that is being made will work fine in the bridge. It is, after all, going to have medium output. I plan on getting two. One to use as a humbucker in the bridge, and one to use split in the neck.

    Matched set FTW.

The real question is whether or not SD will give us a break on two pickups instead of one.
You'll use it, boy, and as long as you hate using it, you will use it more wisely than most men would. Wait. If ever you don't hate it any longer, then will be the time to throw it as far as you can and run the other way.”

if enough people are willing to cough up the $2XX for the pair then i wouldnt be surprised if they do it. are there going to be enough people willing to lay down the cash is the real question.

That's the clencher, it's a leap if faith do you trust the forum to design a pickup, and do you trust MJ to wind a bridge on her own without clips, without descriptions.

Truthfully it can be a scary proposition and I doubt many guys will bite on it.

It would be ironic that if the CS winds a pair for each position and can be purchased individually, and the bridge one outsells the neck.

This is kind of a silly question. It's like asking "do I want vanilla ice cream, or the choice between vanilla and chocolate ice cream"?

I'd be interested in buying this as a set, provided that the thing makes sense... However, I am not that sure whether or not currently the whole thing is heading that direction...
