Default New appreciation for the UOA5 mag

I've got probably about 5 of these.....none of which found a permanent home in pickups until now.
I've got a Hagstom Viking which I just put my Handwound Zhangbuckers into. They had an A2 in the bridge and an A3 in the neck. It sounded pretty good, but something was missing...maybe some zing from extra output.

I tried to find my A4's, but they must be in pickups, so the UOA5 was the next best. It seemed like that was the answer. The bridge has a bit more output and drive, but not more harsh treble. The neck has enough mids and highs but not too much bass.

Its the first time where this particular magnet has worked for me.

I've been telling for a while about this mag match made in Heaven, the A3 neck/UOA5 bridge with PAF-like winds, specially in semi- and full-hollow guitars.

Not for the sloppy player, though...

You have to live it to believe it!

A3 neck is my usual go-to magnet....but for some reason in this guitar it was a little flat. Perhaps the extra strength of the UOA5 gave the sizzle it needed.

For some of us, A8's provided the warmth and mids we were looking for, but we there are times we still wanted something with more organic dynamics and a more vintage tone, but without the very rounded high end of A2's or the high output of A8's. UOA5's have provided the answer to that. Great magnet!
