Thumbs up Help Choosing Pickups for Basswood Rg

    Hi guys.

I have an Ibanez Rg: basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 frets and floating trem, her tone is sharp with some sparkle and is a bit weak and thin -i´m using a 59'model set and it doesn´t goes well with my gear and my likes. I play from bluesy tones to hard rock ones and sometimes go over the top.

I want to enhance the bright part of her tone to make the sound a screamer one but with a fine touch when needed -the idea is take the guitar´s character to work with but counteract the weak/thin aspect- while fatten and increasing the output a bit to give her tone some authority. A fatter sound -but not too much- preserving chime/bright is in mind.

I´m looking a very close to paf but a bit rounder overall sound, with a litte beefier -fat but solid- bass response wit a rich low end.-knowing the limits of the RG design- Cleaner in the neck position.

I´m not after a lot of output, tone is the most important thing, just needing a little more. I´m wondering between the pearly gates bridge, sh-2 bridge or Alnico II pro bridge for neck and tb-5, tb-15, tb-4 or tb-12 for bridge, just to say something . I only use a volume control.

    Thanks.

Is your Rg a Basswood one? how would you say the bottom end and the thickness is on that Rg? It´s because i´ve been interested on the jb from long time a go but i ever get distracted by other options.

    Cheers and thanks man.

I just played my friend's Washburn X40. I guess it has alder body. He put Screamin Demon in the bridge and Pearly Gates Plus in the neck position (yes, it's a bridge pickup). The Demon screams hard rock in that guitar and PG Plus fattens up the neck pu position in 24 frets guitar - gives it more meat for that bluesy tone. Fairly thick and no annoyingly bright tone. Both pickup have quite similar vintage vibe character as '59 with a lil bit more power. Just like what you need. Anyway that guitar has inspires me to put Alt 8 and Demon (in the neck) on my cheap alder LP copy for more heavier stuff (no aim for versatility here - my teles provides that).

Very interesting. I was thinking something like that with the AIIpro Bridge but, as you said that pearly plus does what i aiming to get i will be considering that route.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Dimarzio Air Zone.

Medium output, and will thicken things up.

Never tried APH-1B in the neck of 24 frets axe. But in 22 frets axe it has a rounded muffled sound to me. I don't like it (really like it in the bridge though). I guess you'd better go with A5 equipped bridge pu in the neck if you take that route. Have you tried '59B in the neck (since you already have that)? Maybe that's what you're looking for. If so, then just get a lil hotter bridge pu like PG Plus or '59/Custom Hybrid.

The hybrid is hot for neck so, do you think it can be muddy? Maybe i can put a screaming demon on neck and something hotter on bridge. I have a 59´model n on neck and a trembucker version but the man who installed cut too much of the cable length so i can´t use it on neck as i wanted. I suppose an interchange can be done.

I mean hybrid bridge with 59b or PG Plus in the neck. All pickups I mention are medium hot with vintage vibe. You said you want a something like '59 with a lil more omph. If you'd put Demon in the bridge, the hotter bridge pickup will be more far away from '59 charateristic that you like. Well, Full Shred bridge is great for hard rock though.

I just got SH-12 and still waiting SH-15. Can't comment on it yet. I expect it fatter than PG Plus/59b in the neck and more fluid for high gain lead though.

When you got it and install please tell me how it sounds or post soundclips.

I have installed on it a pair of 59´model I´m happy with the neck one (i´m curios to try other pups too) but i need a little more power keeping that vintage vibe. I tried the C5 but i didn´t liket it.

Do you think so? What i didn´t realize before? Airy sound, a little bit power and a little bit fat keeping that vintage vibe?.

Both spots or do you think other model will be better on bridge?.

    Thanks.

If you want Duncan, then JB/Full Shred or Custom Custom/Jazz. If you want Dimarzio then a Breed set or a Tone Zone/Liquifire.
Good trades with: Dominus, Jackson Distortion, Richard, DWVINKY, Notesfeld, Inhuman, Brunogio, SFW, Jolly, Darthphineas,

It's a sweeter and more aggressive '59... they pair really well together.

As far as DiMarzio goes... you would LOVE an AT-1 in the bridge of that guitar.

The neck '59 responds awesomely to magnet swaps like A4 or even A3 too.

The duncans you listed, how much they will liking basswood?

Do you the CC would have a good amount of bass since it´s EQ on the chart is low on bass? B:3 M:7 T:7

    Thanks.
