Curious, judging on the lack of topics about BKP's I guess they were just a passing fad and every one is over them and back to thier SD's....????
Or, am I wrong?

I use them and love them. I have a set of Black Dogs and a set of Mules. My BKs are beyond a doubt the best sounding pickups i have ever used.
Having said that I still have pickups from other makers including Duncan.
THe reason they arent bigger in America is price.
Gravity...its just a theory

I have tried some friends have had and I found them to be good, but not worht the price for us Americans. I think Seymour Duncans are better for your dollar and if you want to spend as much as you would on Bare Knuckles you could always get the Duncan Custom Shop or some of the smaller hand winders to get you exactly what you want.

Passing fad? Hardly. I'd say that they're bigger now than they've ever been.
I only own one, but it's one of the best pickups I own. Definitely worth the asking price.
Every love that made me lose my reasoning. Every chord that made my conscience ache. Every day spent counting hours. Well, none of them comes close to singing back a song inside my head.
I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.
excuse my ignorance but what is a bkp? british killer pickups?
BKP = Bare Knuckle Pickups
I've played a few and find them incredibly over-hyped and over-priced, but there are plenty who really like them. Overall I like my SDs better, so I've kept them.

I'd love to get a pair of BKP Warpigs for my SG but the price is keeping me away. They may be worth every cent of the $300 price tag but it's hard for me to part with that much money just for a pair of pickups.
I got a Painkiller in a trade for a Suhr Aldrich, I'll be testing it tomorrow, I hope is tight enough. I emailed the guy from BKP told him about my axe, my amp an he recommended me the painkiller, great custumer service btw.
I have 3 Strats loaded with BKPs sets ... Irish Tours, Apaches and Mother's Milk. They're all great pickups, particularly the ITs and Apaches. I have baseplates on the bridge pickups to help rein in the brightness of that position and make attaining suitable amp eq easier.
I haven't tried any of their humbuckers because I use hybrids made from SD coils (95/Custom, Custom/JB and 59/Jazz), but I would like to try a set in the LP-style guitar I built last year.

I've played a ceramic warpig and I have a alnico warpig, love them both. The price is a little high in the US though, and I don't think they're necessarily better than anything else, there's just nothing else that sounds like them. I got mine used from a forum bro, I don't think I'd have one if I had to pay $160 for one.

BKPs are great and their rep is second to none. Tim Mills really have golden ears for tone and is a great chap to deal with to boot.
Having said that, their prices in the US of A are too high because of the valuta exchange. You can have comparable quality for less when dealing with US p'up makers, including many high quality boutique winders.
In Europe are well seated price-wise and are requested by many, also outside of the United Kingdom.

bare knuckles are badass , i have in all my guitars now . i haven't tried a bad sounding pickup yet .

I really want to try a set of warpigs....
Oh, and $300 is a lot for two pickups in America, but down here in South Australia i've seen seymours and dimarzios for no less than $140..... So BKP's aren't that much of a stretch for me over your standard seymours and dimarzios...
hey, I know of someone who bought a single EMG 60 for the bridge, he totally got ripped off because he bought it for $260
LtKojak, on the theory of having too many guitars...
Also, I'd like to remind you that the very concept of having "too many guitars" just doesn't exist. It's been selfishly created by parents and/or girlfriends/wives to lure you to stay away of your passions just to have more of YOUR money and YOUR time at THEIR disposal!

^ it's funny because new models like p-rails and AP2 slash buckers have obviously been bought by the retailer when our currencies were more even, so you can look at parts display case in a shop and see either of these retailing for around half of the stacked P90 or covered '59n next to it

I have BKPs in all but 1 of my electric guitars and really like them, they just work for me.
Yes they're expensive, overly so for anyone in the USA, but so are Duncans and Dimarzios etc to us over here in the UK.
They have awesome customer service and Tim Mills really knows his stuff.

+1. I'd have a bunch of BK's, but when I can get used Duncans and DiMarzio's for around $40, it's hard to justify BK prices here in the USA.
Since most of us can't, or won't lay out that kind of cashfor a PU, we don't have experience with them, and hence the lack of threads.
"Completely Conceded Glowing Expert."
It's worth remembering that if you purchase BKP pickups direct from their website, anyone outside of the UK will pay 17.5% less than the prices listed on their website. That figure is the British VAT and only applies to the Brits, people from anywhere else don't pay it.

Considering they are the price of SD custom shop pups in the US. It makes little to no sense to buy them if you are in America (unless you can score one used somewhere, I don't see them used very often and their depreciation is very low too).
My brother uses the Nailbombs, and he swears by them. I haven't gotten a set yet, so I don't know how they sound. I might if I do a partscaster Tele sometime, but I don't want to spend all that money to find out I hate them. I think I'll just borrow my brother's LP for like a week or two, and gig with them once or twice to see how they sound in the real world.

There is no way to compare BK buckers with SD buckers because Tim Mills of BK swears by scatterwinding and SD is against it. Scatterwound pups sound very different. Whether you like it or not is a matter of personal taste. My Rebel Yells sound amazing but I'm still fond of my JB equipped guitar which gave me sterling service for many years.
As for people talking about paying a lot of money 'just for a pair of pickups' - one of the most important components in your sound is worth spending a bit of cash on if you can. When you consider the price of a decent guitar or amp, a couple of hundred pounds/dollars is not that much for something that can transform your sound into something you won't believe. People pay more for overdrive pedals.
